Hello. I was considering purchasing this camera: http://play-mart.co.kr/front/php/product.php?product_no=592&main_cate_no=&display_group=

I was just wondering if anyone could translate the title: Canon EOS-550D (비정품, 바디) 신뢰!!믿음!!당일배송!!D

When chrome translates the page this title reads: "Non-genuine" This has me concerned as 550,000KRW is unusually cheap for a brand new 550D canon camera.

Thank you!

It's a knock off. Fake. Don't buy it. You get what you pay for.

I didn't realize Chinese factories could be sophisticated enough to remake a Canon SLR body.

Thanks.

싼 게 비지떡...j/k I don't think 비정품 means it's necessarily a "knock-off," just something imported directly without the normal "guarantees" you would assume of a Korean-made product? I'm not totally sure though.

You guys are right. It's not "fake" in the sense that it was made in some knock off factory in China and simply had a Canon label slapped on it. It's a real Canon camera. It just means that it's not meant for the Korean market (and may or may not have been imported without paying the proper taxes). It may not have a Korean manual. It may not have Korean software. It may have a 110v American/Japanese style plug. It may not have a waranty that is valid in Korea. Etc... If you're interested in it I would call them up and ask them what exactly the differences are between this one and the Korean model.

I bought most of my Canon equipment from Korean stores that imported the equipment from Japan (usually noted, "비정품"). It's cheaper, and I prefer the made in Japan quality. You don't get a warranty from a Korean Canon branch, but Canon itself will still take care of you if something goes wrong. If you scroll down the page on which that product is listed, it will almost always note the country of manufacture. Look for 일본 and you should be fine.

Thank you sir, what website did you use?

Regardless of the lack of local warranty, it seems that 550,000 krw is unusually cheap for a new 550D body.

I was also wondering about the lenses - they list two separate prices. I was thinking of purchasing the 50mm 1.4 canon lens.
Here, they are quoted at 370k, and 400k. http://www.digital-sy.co.kr/front/php/product.php?product_no=688&main_cate_no=88&display_group=1&service_id=pcdn

Does the cheaper lens not have warranty?

I think it's the same...official import for the korean market and grey import of products originally destined for either HK or Japanese market...
