I have found another job, and I need to obtain a letter of release. My employer has agreed to the LOR, but I will do mine before I leave my current job - is this possible?
My new job wants to do the transfer before I start to work there. My question is, can I give my letter of release to my new employer and still work at my old school?
The letter of release will be for the end of May, but I will give it to them a few weeks before that. |

7 days.
you can begin the transfer 7 days before the old job ends.
The new job must start within 30 days of the old job ending.

If your current employer agrees to the letter of release , get it NOW. It just has to to show your last day of work, but it can be signed earlier. If they arent willing to provide you with the LOR earlier (now) than your last day of work, dont be surprised if they come up with an excuse to not give it all and leave you up the creek with no paddle - and by that I mean forced to continue working for them or be stuck with nothing. Dont trust that youll actually get the letter until they put the letter in your hand. Words mean nothing, paper is king. |

My LOR will be for the end of May, but the employer wants to do the transfer before I start work. They want a power of attorney to do the transfer while I am still working here. They want to do this as soon as possible, but from what you said they cannot do it.
I wish recruiters knew more about the policies of immigration.
Basically, if my new job starts in late May, then I cannot do the transfer until 7 days before they want me to start, correct?
Also, say you do the transfer May 20th, but your contract doesn't start until May 31, will immigration still put May 31,2012 on your ARC or 1 year from the transfer? |
