Korean pop star and actor Rain topped the latest Time Poll 100, in which readers vote for who they think are the world's most influential people.
Rain garnered 406,252 votes in the online poll to rank No. 1 among 203 candidates, Time magazine said on Friday. He also previously placed first in 2006 and 2007, and in 2006 he was shortlisted to the final Time 100 and walked down the red carpet for the ceremony.
Taiwanese actor and singer Jay Chou was the runner-up on the latest list with 207,239 votes, followed by "Britain's Got Talent" sensation Susan Boyle. U.S. pop star Beyonce came in sixth, and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange 11th. U.S. President Barack Obama ranked 46th.
Time is preparing its final 100 list based on the online poll and its own selection process. Last year, Olympic figure skating champion Kim Yu-na was named to the final 100. |
Ridiculous. He can thank the netizens. He probably shouldn't even be in teh top 100 much less number 1. |

That must have been some netizen in-joke, similar to people electing 'Jedi' as their religion on census polls. He's not even the most important person in Korea. There are a host of Korean actors and singers who are more popular amongst Koreans. If I had to vote for a Korean, it would be Yu Jae Seok (the bespectacled TV host). There must be a law in Korea that says he needs to be on at least one TV channel at all times of the day.. |

interesting because all the young Koreans I ask are not big fans or rain.
I would think a band like Big bang, or Girls Generation or super junior etc
would have a far bigger fan base ..
G dragon most influential hahahahaha |

I doubt it since Kim Yuna was on there last year. But yeah i'm puzzled why he's #1 much less in the top 100 |

Kim Yeonah, Park Tae Hwan, Park Ji Sung, that fella in the MLB have at least all earned some respect by being successful in their chosen fields. Rain on the other hand... |

If you check the Time site, the poll isn't just for influential Koreans. It's most influential worldwide. That makes the poll even better or worse for credibility. Jay Chou and Susan Boyle are just below him.
Though not as famous in Korea as he once was, he does have a huge following across Asia. His votes from Chinese fans alone is probably what puts him up so high on the list. |

I agree with the poll. Whenever I am in trouble or have to make a difficult decision, I always think to myself "What would Rain do?" It normally ends with me singing a really over-the-top song while I pull some great dancing moves. For some reason people walk away when I do this |

Just the other day I was reflecting on how much Rain has changed my life and the lives of the people around me. |
