I've made a few games called, "Guess the Language". A nice interactive coming with info. about each language.

but in the meantime, can you get Indiana Jones status?

Full game (30 questions - don't worry can stop and pick up again anytime)
http://bit.ly/hYnD8Q

Mini (10 questions) http://bit.ly/ge4HDu

Also a tough video on my blog with 23 different languages. http://bit.ly/dLM2iy

Good luck.

Meh, I only got 7. But that is one horribly set up and created quiz, whoever made it seriously needs to work on their Flash skills.

I got a 9/10 also on the mini quiz. I missed the one from Fuji. Ironically #10 was in Korean.* Wink

(* I'm assuming here that the questions from the mini quiz are randomly picked from the full quiz.)

I missed out on Fiji too....but did worse than you because I missed the two involving clicking on the map.

It's tough when the map is just black lines on a white background. I never realised how much difference the colors make.

I had never even heard of Fasri, so if that was an answer to a question I would have bombed on that one too.

Farsi is sometimes called Persian, it's the native language of Iran.

I tried the harder quiz first - got 17 out of 30. Then on the shorter one got 7 out of 10 (got the same three questions wrong from the big quiz, still don't know the correct answer to the map ones, it's impossible to see). Should have got a few more on the first one, confused a few languages I should really know with other familiar ones. And I wrote that portuguese was russian. D'oh! I've got so many brazilian friends and can speak some portuguese, but I always mistake the accent of actual Portuguese people as an eastern european language.

It's funny you say that. I mistook Portuguese for Russian as well. I rushed it but I was ashamed of myself as I speak Spanish and French pretty well. Not to mention I listen to a lot of Brazilian music and can often pick up bits and pieces most sometimes. Utter shame. I've been to Portugal and I spent over six months in eastern Europe but I never drew that correlation.

140.

The Latin was HORRIBLE, and the Esperanto was nearing horrific. Korean had a lisp. I answered Vanuatu instead of Fijian (derp).

You used the same samples for the mini quiz so, yeah, 10.

The sound samples in the video are of poor quality.

Oh I realize both the presentation and the sound quality aren't of the highest quality.

On the former, I plead "being busy" and used a template. I do know enough about flash but to make a great quality game would probably take over 20 hours of desk time. However, when I can find a nugget of time and finish learning how to make KT videos, I'll jump into this more.

The latter, I can't do much about. Free librovox recordings of the Declaration of Human Rights and took me time to cut/edit out the appropriate article. http://bit.ly/fb6wan

This was basically interesting, fun. I want to do a video version and think that will be much better. You'll get the pragmatic and cultural information to make it easier. I'll be asking to send in video readings once I get this set up. Probably will use http://intervue.me/ Stay tuned.

Also, here is the ppt version - some might be able to use with classes. Has some info. about the languages and the text. http://bit.ly/fUv07F

Cheers,

DD

I got 17/30 correct. I screwed up Russian... Russian is the only one I am embarrassed about getting wrong (I put Polish which is stupid because there's lots of Polish people in my neighbourhood).

Most of those were languages I had never heard before.

I'm glad to see many did as bad as I did! It's a challenge.

Here is the interactive presentation with info. about each language. Good for teaching. http://bit.ly/jnwtwd

You can download the ppt from my blog, if that works better.

Cheers,

DD
