Hi there.

So, I have my tax certificate/permission to do private tutoring from the tax office (and the appropriate visa, of course), but I am wondering what are the average rates per hour for private tuition in the Seoul and Bundang area?

This is regarding general English (not just a ''conversation class'') for adults.

I would also like to know how much people usually charge per hour for the conversation classes as well.

Thanking you in advance Laughing

depends on what you are tutoring. General English can mean almost anything.

I have been getting anywhere from 30,000won to 90,000won per hour for the last few years

hi,

Thanks for the reply.

That's quite a range!

When I mean General English, I mean day to day English, as oposed to Business English.

May I ask what kind of tutoring services were you providing at the W30,000 end and the W90,000 end? i.e. what were the Learners expecting for their money?

Cheers

It's a bit suspect you know to get certified and even the appropriate visas, yet don't know the rates. But to answer your questions I'd say most people typically charge 50,000 a won an hour for 1 person. Add more people and the rate usually goes up. Really depends on how the person feels how they are worth and how much the other party is willing to pay.

Given the ranges I have heard from various sources (not just here) I don't believe that it is suspect to double check the rates I am planning to charge.

Thanks for the input...I agree W50,000 is about right for a 1:1

30,000 is what I usually get for conversation practice (basically paid to hang out)

50,000 is usually what I will charge for actual instruction in whatever area they would like. Also, I usually make them buy a book to work with since I loathe copying education materials.

70,000-90,000 is what I get for test prep. This requires you to have some background in the subject matter and have previous student scores. For example, usually before I tutor for TOEFL or various college entrance tests I am asked to provide my background and I am able to show multiple accreditations, my test scores and my previous student's scores both before and after tutoring.

General tutoring will hover around 40,000-50,000 if you are using any sort of text book. More if you can prove your skill through accreditations or contacts.
