|

The U.S. Government is determined to put an end to online piracy. In an attempt to give copyright holders and the authorities all the tools required to disable access to so-called rogue sites, lawmakers will soon introduce the PROTECT IP Act. Through domain seizures, ISP blockades, search engine censorship, and cutting funding of allegedly copyright infringing websites, the bill takes Internet censorship to the next level. |

If history has taught us anything it's that pirates will somehow get around it. |

Politicians who have no clue what they are talking about doing what is politically expedient even though in practical terms it is impossible.
The US government can't affect TLDs that are not US based so if the TLD of the torrent site is not held by a US registrar then they can't do anything but pee into the wind and cry over it.
Blockages don't work (ever heard of proxies?) or simply using an IP number instead of a domain name for the trackers.
VPNs are another way to effectively get around it.
Cutting funding won't work if the business is not US based. Cash works well all around the globe and US law is meaningless outside the US.
Seizures of domains won't work,
Blockades won't work,
There are search engines based outside the US who have no problem ignoring US law since the US has no jurisdiction or right to regulate.
Truly a good example of the blind calling out directions to the deaf.

The best thing the US can do to fight pirating is allow the telecom companies to continue giving the crappy service they're already known for. |

I guess the geeks will just keep finding ways to fileshare like they have been doing since the internet was born. |

what bugs me more is how they are now going after streaming sites, its hard now to get some decent quality streams for the nfl and nba playoffs.
there will always be a way to find torrents, worst case is you go back to usenet |
