Maybe you were overexcited and speaking too loud for all to hear.

Anyone else hate foreigners who practically shout?

Koreans, for the most part, keep the tone down in public and so should you. This is probably why you got the interference.

Koreans are quiet in public? Laughing Laughing

Radius, I get the 'English mock' all the time. It usually happens when I'm alone and walking down the street. The most recent time was Friday night coming up the elevator to my apartment. There was a young couple in the elevator too, when they just had to say over and over giggling to each other " Why's dat??!"

They hope is to embarrass you and also to fuel their low self-esteem.

Definitely a low esteem issue, for sure. It's so pathetic that it's laughable.

They're actually not that rare.

They probably think they're standing up to the foreign threat like gallant knights fighting with evil dragons. I can't imagine their girlfriends being impressed by it... but K-girls are definitely willing to put up with a lot of stuff, including blatant dysfunction, co-dependence and domestic abuse, so it's hard to imagine them not going along with it.
