New to the area. Looking for a good gym where I can lift heavy in Southern/SE Seoul. Would appreciate your recommendations. I'm located near Jamsil/Songpa, but am willing to travel up to 30-40 minutes for a good gym.
Thanks. |

SAP (Speed and Power) is near Konkuk University station, and it's your kind of place if you want to lift heavy. It's a Crossfit/powerlifting gym: power racks, tires for flipping, chains, ergometers, glute/ham raises, kettlebells, that kind of thing. I only go there once a week, so I buy day passes, but I believe a membership is 70,000 won/month.

It's hard to explain how to get there. I'll try but I recommend calling (or getting a Korean to call) for directions.
You can take Ttukseom station, but I don't know how to get there from that station. I always take Konkuk University station, exit 5. Turn right until you get to the corner with a cell phone store, just past a pet store, then turn right again. It's a short walk from there in the basement of a Kookmin bank building. |

Went to SAP this morning, joined today, worked out tonight. If you like to wear your own clothes (shirts apparently optional) and get down and dirty wen you lift, this is your place. Chains, olympic rings, and rope to climb.. I did a full back and Bi's day here, minus lower back extensions, so I just did weighted good mornings. They don't have any machines for your legs though, and really push the "crossfit with practical muscle" over bodybuilding. Looks like lots of squats and deadlifts in the future. When I go back tomorrow for chest and Tri's I'll see about shooting a quick video and some photos of the inside of the gym. Hours are from 6:00a-11:00p and it's 70,000 won/month. If you sign up for ..6 months? you get an additional 10 days free. Showers and locker rooms are minimal facilities, didn't see an actual toilet when I was there. Must bring gym shoes aside from street shoes (not used to that yet). If you take The green line to Konkuk University, get out at Exit 5. You'll be looking at Lotte world?? (big building on your right). When you leave the exit, take your immediate right. Walk down about 10 minutes until you reach the first large intersection at the middle of the bridge that runs along your left hand side of the sidewalk. Once there, take another right. Walk down about 5-7 minutes. You'll see the Camo SAP sign on the second floor of the building, walk downstairs to enter. Buddy who works the front desk speaks good enough English to hold a conversation and get you started.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. |

Any of you guys who lift there want to ask around if they know of a similar gym in Busan (or other cities...)?
The people there probably know a lot about the lifting scene in Korea and may know of other gyms through competition. |

Hey! If you guys organize small local meets for powerlifting, I would definitely be interested. Do you guys have a Facebook page or something? |
