That doesn't matter. Some of the biggest America-bashers I've come across are Americans. |

| Although he doesn't use abusive language, Fonzi is our most angry poster, the indignities of the world seem to knaw at his soul unceasingly, he's going to die early of a coronary ... |

When Americans do it, it's not America-bashing. It's self-criticism and sometimes dissent, one of the highest callings of a citizen.
I didn't think he was bashing - just seemed a little clueless. That's a risk anyone takes when they ask a sincere question about something they honestly don't know.
And some of the answers people have given seemed a little clueless to me also. |

I doubt he ever was a Republican. The Fonz sounds more like the disingenuous breastbeaters I used to hear on talk radio back home. It would usually go something like this: "I'm a lifelong Republican and I have finally seen the light! It's high time we raise taxes, increase welfare benefits, ban all guns and abolish the death penalty." |

The second two are not a matter of being dem or rep, just common sense. |

I agree that there's a difference, but I disagree that the only determination is the nationality of the commentator. I define "America-bashing" as an obsession to rip on the U.S., which causes people to go out of their way to look for things to criticize without really thinking whether such criticism is justified. Anyone can do this, even Americans. I would never call such people "dissidents", even if they were Americans. That would be an insult to the real dissidents of the world.
Yes, there are dissidents out there, but they are usually intelligent enough to see the wrongs as well as the rights, and only criticize what they honestly feel is rationally worthy of criticism. And then there are the angry idiots who just like to bash because it makes them feel better. It is overly simplistic to try to divide the groups based solely on whether or not they are Americans. |

Yes, LaRouche has actually run for president as an "Independent Democrat" several times, though I do recall in the mid 80s he was a big backer of Reagan's Strategic Defense Initiative, and was instructing his followers to either support Reagan or LaRouche for president. As well, LaRouche is also hostile to the neo-cons, probably a bit of resentment on his part that some his ex-trotskyite comrades wound up with better career gigs than him. |

I was only mostly serious. Try this.
Criticizing the US (or another country) is something you have to earn, and the way you earn it is with love. Ive met plenty who are not Americans who qualify, and a few who are who dont. |
