Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but Kindle lasts like a month on one charge (at least that's the official figure) whereas Ipad will die after one day of use. so if you expect to go traveling and read on the road, it's a no brainer

buying from amazon is pretty convinient, i've done so in the past and the products come fast and i've never been charged customs either.

To add to this: most rechargeable batteries have a lifespan measured in charging cycles. If you charge your iPad, iPod, Kindle, or whatever, you can expect that after say, 300 charges, your battery will be effectively at half capacity or even lower. Now, with the iDevices, that's going to occur within a year, generally speaking. To reach 300 charging cycles with my Kindle will probably take me anywhere from 5-10 years. So, there is that also. Not a dealbreaker by any means, just a nice bonus for the Kindle.

I hadn't planned on getting either until recently, when I decided I should start reading more--you know, to better myself. Cut some TV out.

OP, I'm a bit confused. You said that you wanted to do more reading, which based on what you've written has a lot to do with being distracted. Seems like you've already solved your debate. If you're saying that the iPad has more that you can do with it, then aren't you defeating your purpose in buying it in the first place. Answer (for you it seems): Kindle.

But, to be honest, I'd take a different approach. Just cut out the technology (TV, Dave's/ Computing/ Everything) hands down for a month. You'd be surprised at how utterly bored you'd get and how quickly you'd move to your only option (and you have to consciously make these your only options): coffee shops and books.

I tend to do this in monthly intervals and it helps a great deal. I recommend it; it's a biatta to pull off but feels great when you do it--better than backpacking in India or signing up for tech rehab. Exercises all your muscles, you walk around more, move more, and work the brain.
