|
|
Hello folks, I have just received my Criminal Record (history) from the FBI in the states and it has a, "Charged with DWI in 2006" on it, the rest is clean.
My question is, will immigration still let me work in Korea, with this drunk driving charge?
Thanks for anybody's help with this matter. |

No, look towards expunging the charge if possible. That's the only hope. |

According to everything I have read, you have to have a totally clean record. Someone else here probably has more expertise on this issue, but IMO, it's not looking great for you. Since it says you were charged, but not convicted that might change things, but having anything on your CBC is not great when it comes to immigration. |

Unfortunately, no. My friend was denied (about a month ago) by Suwon Immigration because she had a dui charge. And suwon is supposed to be more lax than seoul. |

I also know of another person who was denied for just having a DUI and no other charges. |

Thanks everyone for your imput, I took heed and wrote a snail mail letter to the police dept where the crime originated and asked them for a expunging of that old 2005 charge. If they erase it, my FBI will be clean. If they deny my request, then I will start packing my bags! |

Even if they expunge it your arrest record might still show, word of warning. |

It is also possible that it will never show up.
Maybe it's been 20 years. Maybe it's been automatically removed
after a certain period.
Either way, have a back-up plan. Good luck. |

In my state a DWI is driving while intoxicated on drugs. It says DRUGS on the FBI check.
In my state a DUI is driving under the influence and its just that on the FBI check.
I think this may be why some people with a DUI charge get a visa and some don't.
The FBI report is all abbreviations, but if they see the word DRUG your F'd....
With Korean drinking culture a DUI isn't so bad and they've been allowing convicted teachers an E2.
What suckes, is that even if you're charged but not convicted or if all the charges were dropped it STILL appears on your FBI report, even if you were sober throughout the whole incident with the police.
Those freaking bastards have ruined your teaching career because they were assholes |
