|
|
I'm nearing the end of my contract in Gwangju at a Hagwon and I've really liked this town, for the most part. I chose Gwangju because I wanted to live in a city where the foreigner population was lower--so the students might appreciate me more. I would like to, either stay in Gwangju or find another city that is on the smaller size. So what city has been your favorite city? And to make this thread more relevant, what has been your favorite city overall? |

I lived in Wonju, nice little place. I also lived in Koje-do, used to be nice, but I think it's way too crowded these days. |

I taught in Cheonan for three years. Commuted from Seoul, but spent a fair amount of time down there. Decent in terms of Western amenities, some good places to eat, close proximity to Seoul, and a few worthwhile local attractions. Overall, I liked the people there, both Koreans and foreigners.
Though I never lived or worked in Wonju or Koje-do, I liked them both from a visitor's perspective.
The place I would have liked to have tried, though never did, is Gapyeong. The mountains north of the city are fantastic. |

Dongtan. Nice place with friendly expats. Keep in mind that I've never lived there, but I do live in nearby Suwon. |

In my final week in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do. Really loved it out here. Clean air, lots of nature, a subway to get to Seoul when needed. The people are extremely nice, although the stares and glares are a plenty.
Not much happening on the north side of the city, so I'd avoid that unless you have a car and like farms. |

Personally I liked Geoje Island...(Okpo) specifically....
Might be a bit boring for some but it`s really grown over the years since I left and there is a nice expat community (majority not ESL teachers, but foreign engineers from all over the world that work at Daewoo Shipyard).
Beaches not too far away, great in the spring/summer months and short ferry ride to Busan. |

Sokcho is definitely the best city. Beautiful scenery, mountains for hiking, beaches for swimming, and very friendly people, except for the foreigners. |
