I had a job interview and information screening for a professional job with a reputable and high-paying employer today back in my hometown.

I applied for the job and got invited. I wore my best suit, made sure I was clean-shaven and presentable and went to the screening/interview.

What do I see? A room of about 15 men, one other wearing a suit. What were the others wearing?

Hmmm...let me see. Ballcaps? About 4. Shirt and tie? Just 1. Unshaven? 1 or 2. Dirty pit-stained t-shirts? About 7-8. Ripped jeans? At least 2.

I am far from perfect but did all these people miss the part of common sense that says dress nicely for a job interview? Maybe a suit was overboard, maybe it wasn't. But when I told the interviewer I was looking for a job in management area, at least I dressed and talked the part.

Were they all going for that management position? Perhaps some were looking for warehouse work?

Maybe they've been unemployed awhile. Hard to buy a suit when you don't have any money.

I had to go around a lot of friends once to borrow a suit for a job interview......eventually had to borrow one off a guy I hardly knew. Quite embarrassing......but there was no way I was going to the interview without a suit. It was for an office-type job.

Happy ending though....I got the job!

Most were applying for a laborer's job. But that's a good point that you bring up. Would you go to an interview for a laborer's job wearing a worn-out old t-shirt? And, I might add, it is a skilled and well paying laborer job with room for advancement.

Or those who don't have a suit, how about a shirt and tie? Who doesn't have that?

If you show up for an interview for a laborer's job wearing a suit they're going to think you're a pretentious pretty boy [substitute an offensive expletive for that] and laugh to their buddies about it.

Well, a good suit is important...but what a pain in the ass to get dressed...and for what...to just have to get back undressed in another few hours? Iam sorry...but its just such a raw deal....

If it wasn't a crime, I would say it is just better to not where ANYTHING at all ( even to an interview)... Why can't we all just where our birthday suits 24/7?! Wink

I think the only thing that every person on this site can agree on is that cert43/cyui/eb is annoying.
