I have an MA but I'm thinking of getting a TESOL certificate. Would the better Korean universities consider online TESOL certificates less valuable than ones that require you to attend classes in person? I'm not sure if it really makes a difference where I get a TESOL certificate but I think I will be in a better position to get hired if I get one by attending classes in person. If so, which are the better and cheaper places to get a TESOL certificate in Korea?

For a uni position IN KOREA it usually won't make any difference.
The difference comes in being available for an interview, interviewing well and does anyone know you.

If you want the best you can get for the least money you need to pay (for potential work elsewhere on the planet where a real TESOL cert does make a difference) then look at doing a CELTA in Thailand.

If you just want something to put on a resume then find the cheapest one you can find on-line (won't be worth anything but won't cost you anything either).

I use iCalweb. It was $265 dollars, but I think the TEFL Online does one for less than $200. It may sound stupid, but I only am doing it for the pay bump, not because it's going to help me. I'm well aware that a TESOL certification isn't going to help me much when I'm moving to a foreign country and teaching with very little experience. I guess it's a little like walking the walk and talking the talk. TESOL certification is the talk, actually teaching in Korea is the walk.

That said, iCalweb's program is insanely hard. They make you do a ton of work and revisions to get passing grades on something that's essentially useless outside of a pay increase. If I could go back I'd find a cheaper course that didn't require more than reading and taking online tests to get that little piece of expensive paper. The program is also incredibly bottom-of-the-barrel stuff, schooling you on super easy grammar, then asking you to make amazingly detailed lesson plans for incredibly hard-to-teach students. I also know that since I'm going into a hagwon, lesson planning will be far less rigorous. I'm rambling now, but my message is buy cheap and don't do a lot of work for nothing.

That's what I thought. Thanks for your opinion.
