Not a contract review thread.
I received a contract from a private school through a recruiter that appeared to have a lot of the token issues I have read about on Dave's:
1. No mention of health insurance or pension, a tax rate of 4%, and no specific reference to me as an "employee," which from what I have read here, seems to indicate they are trying to hire me as an independent contractor.
2. One million won housing deposit
3. No specific monthly dates for payments of salary
and some other more minor things, these (particularly #1) are the real red lights to me.
So, I emailed the recruiter about two hours after they sent it, pointing out the issues with the employee/contractor status, tax rate and pension/health insurance. He responded almost immediately (about 15 minutes) with a contract that was exactly the same, but with a paragraph inserted about the employer paying half the pension and insurance, and the tax rate changed to 3.3% (still too high, I know). I am pretty sure I am done dealing with this school, it looks like they are trying to screw me, so I'm not asking if I should take the job. My question is, is it worth negotiating with a school that initially gives you a contract like the one I described? Can you get a solid contract after starting with one like this, or should you just immediately start looking elsewhere? |
