|
|
Dunno if this is the right place for this, but my (new) director is doing nothing and my coworker is leaving in 3 weeks. I've asked him what he's doing, and apparently he has only contacted a single recruiter and they haven't given him anybody. I'm not sure if he expects a teacher to magically materialize or what... thank God it's my only complaint here.
Any advice on good recruiters who can find people (who already possess all documents) real effin' quick? I love my job (6 hrs/day 5 days/week, great coworkers, etc) but I don't relish the idea of covering a bunch of classes for a vacant seat. |

craigslist.
I have always been able to find new teachers in a hurry with that site. Type up an add, put it up everyday and you will have more applicants than you know what to do with. |

craigslist! I would've never thought of that, thanks.
Izyb - The kids range in age from 8 to 14 or so. I sent you a PM. |

Hey! I'm too new to reply in private.
Thanks for the message. I'm looking for work as soon as possible. However, I am currently in my last week of university. It's unlikely it would be possible for me to start in three weeks as I still have to wait for my certificate of graduation (in absence). I hadn't actually thought of that when I replied to your message, sorry! It's a shame because I would love to work somewhere that someone has personally recommended.
All the best luck in finding a replacement, although I'm not really sure it should be your responsibility.

There is an ocean of applicants out there waiting for jobs. Seriously.
Recruiters are lazy and like to create an artificial sense of scarcity (of jobs and teachers). They also have very narrow perceptions of how teachers should be (ie under 25, american, etc). |

Izyb- No worries. There are lots of good jobs out there; good luck finding one that starts when you need it to.
Although it's not technically in my job description to find a replacement for my coworker, I'd certainly rather expend the effort and find someone good than rely on the same shady recruiter that farked the last round to find someone in 3 weeks.
litebear- Thanks! She contacted me and I sent her back a pm.
Julius- It's true. There are tons of qualified and dedicated people looking for a job they can take seriously while being taken seriously. Unfortunately there is a massive disconnect in that process in Korea. The ridiculous approach to teaching English (that costs the country 2.5% of its GDP and yields some of the poorest results in the entire world) is at the root of the whole mess. |

Sounds good. Don't worry, I'll send it to you a mere 2 months after you leave Korea. |
