How about enemy dead? The Soviets and Chinese inflicted massive amounts of casualties and tied down the bulk of the German and Japanese armies.
Do you think we get ashore on D-Day in such an easy fashion if Hitler isn't worried about the Russians?
Any idea how much trying to hold onto China and SE Asia sucked Japan's resources and manpower?
Clap Clap for all of "Our Boys", but seriously it's like cheering the Cornerback and the Wide Receiver who make the big plays while ignoring the 14 Offensive and Defensive linemen and linebackers who did the grunt work. |
I think you forget wars are generally not won by man power alone. Do you think Russia is even still in the war without the promise of a D-day invasion and the 11 billion dollars we gave them? Lend-Lease saved their bacon. I think your position would be better served with less hyperbolic argument. All the major allies played key roles and deserve their share of the credit. This crap your on about thanking Russian, Chinese and British soldiers over American vets is pretty sad. If you don't think the guys at D-day, Iwo Jima, the Bulge ect didn't earn a pat on the back just the same as everyone else, then I don't know what to do with you.
If you want to argue that we don't give enough credit out to our allies when taking about WWII, that is a fair and valid point. I don't think its right to do that by down playing the US's involvement however. No US involvement=Allied Victory. Same goes for everyone else involved. |
Oh to be sure if soupsandwich had come on and said "Glory to the Great Patriotic War. Down with you capitalist pig dogs!" I would have taken him to task as well.
But to come on here and lecture us about not saluting D-Day begged him to have some things put in perspective.
One of my grandfathers dodged Japanese torpedoes in the merchant marine, the other helped design aircraft for Bell during the war.
I think Lincoln put it best- "But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow -- this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract."
Yes it is fitting to honor the dead, but there is only so much we can do, and certainly there are better ways than posting about it on Dave's, and especially better ways than taking people to task on Dave's for not posting about it. |

Ah, just like the JFK/9-11 threads, right?

And this is your tribute? If D-Day is important enough to make a post, then it is important enough to expess an actual thought--other than criticizing others for not expressing something you didn't bother to do.
I've often been unimpressed with your posts, but this one....congratulations. In only a couple of short weeks on the site and you've managed to become the Sarah Palin of Dave's. |
Yataboy........you must not have any friends.
I feel pretty bad for you, honestly.
People can give YOU all the "critical thought" and "data" until they are blue in the face. But the fact is, you are an ignorant hater.....plain and simple.....

You're quite predictable ya-ta-boy.
I'm actually surprised you have the mental capacity to be enrolled in graduate school....unless it is the Rocko School of Typewriter Repair.
Good luck with that.

I'll meet you half way on that.
Though, I do thank a veteran when I have the chance. Their service has been taken for granted and often chastized by many.
However, the part I don't agree with in your post....are Lincolns words referring to NOT hallowing the ground. If that were the case, people would forgot those who came before them and the sacrifices they made.....(not too mention the lack of education about such things in the American public school system).
You don't have to dwell on the dead.....but you should honor them. I was disappointed to see that nobody made mention of this on on the board....but not surprised.

If the ad hom and insults continue, some of you will not.
A wise person would take this warning to heart. |
