They changed the law a few months ago.

YES, there is a written test now.
..and YES...there is a study book you can buy for 10K!

the test is in poorly written English, but it is fairly easy. I would suggest to buy and read the study guide.

here is what you need...

-some small pictures of yourself (it's for the license) (or you might be able to buy them there)
-10k for the study book
-your passport
-your current driver's license
-and there are some other expenses...so bring enough money
-you might want to bring your alien card too

have your Korean friend come with you, so you can have a translator.

Thanks everyone for the replies, though I'm still just as confused as ever. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. I don't really want to get a car, but with a family I think it has become a must.

And Buy the Way(tm), no, I wasn't serious about the Tico. That's what this guy: Laughing was for.

While Wifey is absolutely in love with a Matiz, I've narrowed it down to:

-an SM3
-the Daewoo Lacetti (newest model)
-Hyundai Santa Fe or the new Tuscon (not bloody likely, as long as Wifey has breath in her pretty young body -- but I can still hope)
- A BMW 325i (just as soon as I get a big advance on that novel I've been meaning to write)
