I'm seriously not joking. Those are very interesting topics that people have posted and i'd love to participate in those classes.

Nothing more interesting in this world than a controversial topic.

I hate wishy washy talking about what my hobbies are....BORING.

If in the future you see a pigeon-looking waygookin in your class, don't be surprised to see me there. Keep those good ideas flowin'

Bascially what you want is a topic that will spark interest, generate conversation WHILE being focused on clear objectives (what they are supposed to use and learn for that particular lesson-conversation).

What you need to aim for is free flowing conversation that is still geared towards some sort of learning objective.

Otherwise, not much retention will occur.

Say you pick something like gambling and addiction . Make sure you come up with some potential vocabulary for the students before the discussion or that it builds on the lessons you have had thus far. That way the students will apply what they learned in a conversational setting, which is a great learning tool.

If you pick a topic just because you find it controversial or interesting it may not serve your students best. It may be over their heads, put them ill at ease, anger them or discourage them. All of these things will lead to dead space and no conversation at all.

Its important to put yourself in your students shoes, see things from their perspective, knowing where they confort level is and perhaps putting the conversation just a bit above their confort level so that they feel challenged.
