I've been doing some research into using my i-phone in the US, and it seems AT&T doesn't allow pay as you go i-phones on it's network. What therefore is my best and cheapest option? I plan on being in the US for about two months.
Cheers,
Blade. |

I'm not sure which US carriers support an unlocked iPhone with SIM but I'm pretty sure it can be done, because people in Korea unlock their iPhones before leaving. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can share. |

From engadget article:

Not that it'll do you much good in the US -- an unlocked iPhone 4 will still only work on AT&T's 3G bands -- but Apple has just started selling its prized smartphone without any carrier partiality on its US online store. The big attraction is, of course, being able to take the phone abroad and switch MicroSIMs to your heart's content, an experience that most other nations are already well accustomed to. Additionally, though the $649 (16GB) and $749 (32GB) levies may seem rather steep for American buyers, they're quite a bit more affordable than the unlocked pricing elsewhere. You can have yours within three business days if black's your color, or three to five if you're after the snow white one.
Bolded part is mine.
Anyone have any idea how much the iPhone costs in Korea? I know it's a monthly plan that you pay off but I want to see how that compares to the US price. |

If I can use my i-phone without needing to take out a two year contract with AT&T I guess that is not so bad. The idea that I would have to pay the same rate as somebody using a network subsidized i-phone does kinda suck however. |

iPhone's will work on T-Mobile, too, but you will only get EDGE/2G speeds. |

From this website(unlock.co.nz) you can download an app for changing your cell phones APN (Access Point Name), which allows you to use unofficial carrier simms in your cell phone i.e. you can use an AT&T gophone prepaid simm instead of having to sign up for a more expensive monthly contract. |
