I've been to Phuket and Samui, but this time will be going to Krabi with the gf. Any recommendations on places to stay, eat, or things to do, etc? Also, would it be better to stay on Ao Nang beach and visit Railay Beach, or vice versa?

I haven't been there in a few years, so take my advice for what it is worth. I found the central beach in Krabi (Rai Leh) expensive, and the beach immediately north (Ton Sai) more reasonable. At the time it was fairly quiet and I had a good time. You can take a boat between islands or walk across the rocks if you feel energetic.

You might also stay in Ko Phi Phi for a few days for a change. It's a short boat ride over and it's a fun little island with no motor vehicles.

I was there in May 2009 and loved it. It's a break from all of the tourist traps that Thailand has. I stayed at Ao Nang beach and got a VERY MUCH NEEDED rest from civilization. Since you're going in the offseason, there will not be so many tourists there and many places close for the season. The ones that stay open often have discounts to woo more tourists.

I stayed at a Best Western franchisee hotel for 1,000 baht a night after paying for five nights in advance. It is a great hotel with a swimming pool and edible breakfast buffet.

My wife and I stayed about 2 weeks in maybe the same Best Western near Ao Nang beach--it's a decent beach and some of the greatest restaurants I've ever tried in Thailand, though many are hit and miss, just like every tourist country in the world. There are a number of boat tours to nearby islands to break up the monotony.

As for Koh Phi Phi, in the off-season, maybe--but in peak tourist season avoid it like the plague. It gets the worst tourists on the planet.

if you are thinking about going to Ko Phi Phi - and I definitely recommend it - try staying away from the town, which isn't the nicest. Head towards Long Beach (Hat Yao) or along that way - about 10min boat ride from the main port. A little bit more expensive (especially high season) but less noise and a fantastic swimming beach. If I remember right in low season about 800B a night , high season 2000B+ a night.

I stayed in Krabbi town. It has dirt cheap accomidation. You can get a nice place for less than 500 baht. It's a sleepy town away from the action. It has no beach but you can catch longboats to various beaches. It's five minutes by longboat to Rally beach. You can also arrange any day tours to any islands from any of the nearby travel agencies. It has a great night market .

Aou Nang Beach is also good but you'll pay more for accomidation.

Some good day tours include scorkeling and five islands in one day. This also includes a trip to a Muslim fishing village on stilts. Watch out for the sea urchins
