So, vacation time is coming up next month and I want to go to Japan. Does anyone have any advise on where to go while I'm there? I was thinking about flying into Tokyo, then going to Kyoto, and flying out of Osaka. I only have like 9 days, so does anyone have any tips on where to make those days count? |

Bring a whole lot of money and you will be fine. Imagine what you would spend a day touring Korea and X by 3 |

Also, Im not sure on the details here, but I met a guy who told me there is a deal the includes the ferry to japan from Busan and the rail tickets to Kyoto for significantly less than the flight. like 160 bucks eachway. He said he bought them in Japan at one of the railway stations, so maybe that would be a good way back if you have the time. I believe it took a few days. |

that is EXACTLY what i did for my summer vacation last year. 4 nights in tokyo and 4 in kyoto. i liked kyoto much better and would have rather stayed longer there than tokyo. took a day trip to mt. fuji though which was really cool. highly recommend k's house kyoto (http://kshouse.jp/kyoto-e/index.html) but would not recommend khaosan tokyo original (http://www.khaosan-tokyo.com/en/original/) as it was cramped and no AC. you need AC, it was soooooooooo hot and humid there at the end of july! let me know what questions you have, i would be happy to help you plan.

Yeah Kyoto trumps Tokyo for a short vacation, especially if you don't have contacts in Tokyo. Plus you can pretty much get around everywhere on a rental bicycle in Kyoto, 'tho in late July the heat may melt off half of your face. Still, doing so would allow you to explore a lot of side streets which turn up a fair amount of out of the way cafes, shops, and temples. Yeah, Kyoto, baby, no question, and you're only a half hour train ride from Osaka. |
