|
|
We all know about the Blacklists used by us western teachers for schools that treat teachers terribly.
But, is there one for the other way around. Do schools and hagwons have a blacklist for "bad" teachers? Is it even legal?
It seems like it would be a lot of "he said, she said"
If you had a bad experience at a school, would you have to worry about it affecting your chance to work elsewhere? |

Yes, they have one. And, no, it's not legal....but they made it a sign-up/log-in site after there were complaints (threats of lawsuits) from teachers that were being slagged and having their personal info posted. Now, you can't view it the teachers publicly, but they are still there.
That said, you dont have to worry much about it affecting your chances of getting a job. |

Just saw the site...it's all in Korean and you need a log in/PW
Why would being on there not worry teachers (your last sentence)
I had a &*^%^ boss last yr. and I'm paranoid that it's harming my chances of finding another job...
I'm not getting responses like I was before even though last year I was hearing back from schools a lot more |

You dont have much to worry about because it's mostly crap bosses and crap hagwons that post teachers there...also the ones that post are the generally the same that screen their teachers there - so they are effectively doing you a favor by screening themselves (crap jobs) if your name is on it. A good employer will actually check your references personally and not rely on a petty, spiteful review written by a crook.
In your situation, getting less responses may just be due to the fact you are experienced and likely want a slightly higher than starting salary. The trend is to hire young, cheap and inexperienced (ignorant and pliable) - and then blame the entire FT population for their low quality teaching and lack of qualifications. |
