I'm hankering for some bread, but not cheap stuff you'd find at Walmart in America.
Can I find good quality (i.e. wheat/grain/rye) bread with quality ingredients (i.e. butter) at homepluss or Lotte? |

If you can find any dark breads at major outlets, it is less like bread and more like cake with all the sugar they dump into to it.
Costco had some wholewheat/multigrain bread that looked good, but at 7000W a loaf, I'll never find out.
Buy an oven and learn to bake. The savings by cooking your own will pay off the oven long before one year is up. |

I'm going to be transferring to another school in a few months, so my wife and I don't want to buy any more things.
What bread would you suggest I get that's as close to homemade as you can get? |

Lotte Mart in Uiwang/Anyang area has a bread in the bakery section that's pretty good. Not quite wheat, I don't think, but it has a multi-grain texture to it and the surrounding bread fluff isn't bleach white. It's very tasty, slightly nutty flavor, chewy.
I have yet to find whole wheat bread here, or anything remotely like the stuff I like to get at home, but that multi-grain stuff is decent. |

I'm not sure where you are in Korea, but if Hongdae is within your range, there's a great little bakery called Jenny's Bread 02-3789-7817 that should make you happy for a reasonable price. I've experienced it first hand and it's good.

nicedeli.com has rye bread and they deliver. You need to order 50,000 won minimum, so load up on other things. I used to order a few loaves of traditional rye (they also have a larger loaf but traditional is large enough) and freeze some. |

At Homeplus near Beomgye you one can usually find an actually good French style loaf. And it's made with some amount of whole wheat flour. Another multi-grain loaf there reminds me a lot of a bread sold at the food co-op I'd visit back in the US.
So, they are NOT made using the Chorleywood process that results in something that's more like sponge cake or cheap hamburger bun than bread.
The dark colored breads in Korea usually owe their color to the addition of coloring agents or sweeteners, and not the flour used. Still, they do (sometimes) taste like more than sugar. For example (as was said earlier) some have a nice nutty flavor. But not always. Beware of the 'dark' bread at Paris Baguette. It just tastes like a sweet, doughy bun. Boring, unhealthy, crap devoid of whole grain or any relevance to an actual baguette.
I've also managed to buy a darker sliced loaf at E-Mart which though maybe not so healthy still had decent taste and texture and could be used to make a pretty tasty sandwich. |

The bakery at homeplus has real whole wheat bread. It's called "tong mil" . I like it cuz it doesn't have any seeds and nuts in it, and it's not sweet. They usually have 2 or 3 loaves out at a time and I buy them all and then put them in the freezer when I go, cuz I can't get there often. |

How early in the day must you go to find it?
The French bread is usually gone by 10pm, but if you're lucky, you can find it later and at a discounted price. |

Are you saying they put sugar in all bread? I buy the white (whole wheat) when I can. It doesn't seem to taste sweet, but maybe they put faint traces in it. |

My girl and I have been buying Roman Meal bread at E-mart. Roman Meal breads all include whole-grains, I think. |
