26 classes per week at my new hagwon, plus 30 minutes once a week of tutoring 2 of the slower students in the school. Most of my classes (18 of them) are 50 minutes each, 2 classes are 1 hour each, and 6 classes are 45 minutes each. I have to come to school one hour before the first class starts, and I can leave as soon as the last class is over. I'm never at work for more than 7 hours per day. I think I've got it pretty good this year |

Has anyone received a contract, examined it and sucessfully had it revised when they found something that was unclear or unacceptable? Just wondering. Maybe its just me, but there seems to be a LOT of pressure to rush through the paperwork. So many of these positions want to have all of the documents cued-up and ready to go. What if somebody wanted to do this process in a bit more thoughful way? Would it create problems?
Best Wishes,
Bruce |

i've been in korea for 14 yrs. i've worked at hakwons for 5 of those, and the rest have been at public schools and unis/colleges. regarding the haggies, 30 classes seems/seemed to be std. my first place was a craphole hakwon that i left in the tenth month as it seemed i was always doing unpaid OT there, so it was good i left. the second was a good place requiring 30 classes of 50 minutes, but none of us ever did that much...the usu was around 22-25. the third place was 30 hours(classes), which were actually 50 minutes for adults. look at ur contract again, but i'd say the std over the yrs has been 30 50(or so)-minute classes at most hakwons. none of those 3 mentioned hakwons req'd me to stay at the school during off hours. even the one public school i worked at didnt req me to do too much desk-warming. as another has mentioned, maybe i've had it pretty good?
regarding the 3.3%, it seems a bit more std these days. but u should make sure ur taxes r done correctly including submission of medical receipts, store purchases, and credit card uses. u can check on ur own as to whether u r registered with the various agencies(tax, pension, health). tax = 3.3 or less (if ur paying 3.3%, u should likely get a refund). pension = 4.5%, matched by ur employer. nat'l health = 5.08%, currently 50% covered by u 30% by ur employer(for non-governmental agency) and 20% by the gov't according to...
