Can anyone recommend any tour companies to go to Gangwon-do to do the rail bikes/ rafting ( preferably leaving from Daejeon? We don't want to have to go to go to Seoul first....) Any Pension recommendations ( other than the train pension/capsule pension because they are already fully booked)? How to get around without a car between pensions and rail bikes / rafting...

We're trying to plan this on our own but having a hard time figuring out how to get around once were there and finding a pension that isn't fully booked.

We would like to go there between August 13th-17th for a few days. Would love to do rail-biking and rafting . Perhaps other things.. Recommendations?
Easy to get around without a car? If you recommend a pension is there anywhere to eat around it? Hotel Recommendations??

Any extra info would be nice.

Also keep in mind that we're not looking to spend a crap load of money. Trying to find reasonable prices for everything... So if anyone went to gangwon do for a few days to do some rafting/railbiking without a car by yourself or with a tour company... I'd love to hear about it.

thanks.

I live in Gangwondo (in Donghae) so I'll try and answer a few questions for you.
I've gone rafting at Inje and Yeongweol. They were both fun, but I wouldn't be expecting anything too crazy - the rapids are pretty tame, especially if you've gone rafting on bigger rivers. I went to Inje with a group so I'm not sure what it costs just for the rafting, but in Yeongweol we paid 25,000 won per person for I think a 2-3 hour trip. It's worth doing, though, especially if you get a fun guide.
One of my students guides rafting trips on the Hangangtang up near Cheorwon near the DMZ and says it's pretty good, but I've never gone there so I can't say.
For Yeongweol, you'd probably want to catch a bus from Daejeon to Wonju and then from there on to Yeongweol.
For Inje, your best bet is probably taking a bus from Daejeon to Seoul, and then catching a bus to Inje from Dong Seoul or Sangbong bus terminals.
I know most people go to Jeongseon for the rail-biking, but one of my students went rail-biking with her husband somewhere in Samcheok and said it was a lot of fun, but I don't know the details. Here's a link for the Jeongseon one:

I can't help you with the pensions, but if you have any other questions, let me know.
