Do Americans still have to go to immigration and pay for the multiple entry stamp? It's been a while since I took a trip and vaguely remember seeing something about that being done away with but that could be just wishful thinking. I just don't want to make the run over the immigration and find out I don't need it |

no. you now just need your ARC to get back in after a trip out of the country. (and obviously your passport). |

As of Dec. 2010 all registered foreigners (have an ARC) no longer need re-entry permits.
you are free to leave and return for as long as your ARC remains valid (the exception being F5 holders who are limited to 2 years outside the country before their return (their ARC doesn't expire)).
