I can't say about streaming because I haven't tried, but anything else it's just fine. I play movies with it; although, they are not HD movies. I use Microsoft Office all the time. I used to use it a lot for some audio project I had. I even use it with PhotoShop. I like that it's small and I can carry it everywhere. These days, I use it mostly to read ebooks while commuting, but it happens once in a while that I'm in a rush and I use the commuting time to finish preparing for lessons, so it's great to have a computer wherever I go.

netbooks were an idea that never should have happened. they are okay, but most have a very small screen and lackluster specs. they can do word fine but many choke on streaming vids, especially if there are a few of them at 720p resolution or greater and you have other apps open that have eaten up the precious ram allotment. for your cash i say just an ultraportable "real" pc or mac is a better investment. |

Streaming video is ??? some yes, some no, some depends on the vid res. Largely depends on the netbook specs.
MOST MS-office apps are fine. They DO CHOKE on larger spreadsheets (not something a "teacher" is likely to be working on) and are not suitable for running an access database on.

I regret buying my net book.
Streaming video works on some sites, but not all. It handles flash very badly.
If you specifically mean 360p or below on youtube, then you'll be fine. I wish I had bought a real laptop instead... but money was tight! |

I too regret buying my netbook- I guess I bought into the hype a couple of years ago. You can get a budget full sized (and more upgradeable) notebook
cheap. I recently bought a Toshiba C655 for $359 USD & performs adequately- has DVD drive much better performance than my netbook for the same price. |

Netbooks have always been a joke.
I saw the farce in them a mile off, and only bought one because a guy was dumping one cheap, and I knew I could resell it for a profit. I did 5 days later. |

It's true the first generation of netbooks were underpowered.......but I think they'll really benefit from the new APU's like Brazos and Llano being released this year by AMD (Intel will surely bring out something similar).
Despite the success of tablets recently I still think the clamshell design for mobile computing has a lot of life left in it......mostly because there's still a lot of people who can't abide typing any significant amount of material on a screen touchpad.
I'm not writing off the netbook format yet.....although I'd never buy anything with less than a 13'' screen myself. |

I love my netbook. I have no problem streaming videos or doing any type or MS Office activities. I can even play Madden on it no problem.
I go travelling a lot and my other "laptop" is a gaming model with a 17" screen and weighs about 4.5 kg. So it rarely leaves my desk. The battery lasts about 6 hours playing videos and close to 10 with simple word processing tasks.
Don't regret buying it for a second. |

I'm glad it works for you. I bought the "top of the line" at that time Toshiba w/1.66 ghz processor upgraded to 2 GB of mem, win 7 pro, 250 gb hd, etc.
It was still as worthless as t--s on a bull. It does look nice and aerodynamic w/ faux carbon fiber texture top and powder aluminum bottom. |

See, what I don't understand is what part of the netbook advertising campaign you didn't understand. Because what I got out of it was that they're essentially good for battery life, office tasks, the internet, and portability.
If you were expecting good gaming performance or anything requiring serious computing power (recoding video, streaming full HD, etc) then yes, I can see why you'd be disappointed. I just don't know why you would expect a netbook to excel in those areas. |
