The laws have changed in most US states to a "shall issue" system where, if you apply for, pass background checks, and pay a fee, the local law enforcement office basically has to issue you a concealed carry weapons (handgun) permit. Unlike states like Arizona, states like mine require a weapons course of a certain number of hours and/or qualification, along with background checks and a waiting period.
In the past, I took a course with the local police department trainer, so I had the qualification and paperwork and went ahead and got it. Don't actually have a handgun, but thought it would be interesting to get one. Might pick up a Kel-Tec PF-9 or Ruger LCR next year, or just get a used Glock police trade-in from my buddy Mark at www.summitgunbroker.com and do some target shooting. Also thinking of a 10mm or .357 for wild hog hunting.
Was wondering if anyone else has gotten theirs since returning home?
