Is there some special rule about your school having to give you 2 months notice of their intentions to keep you?
I have a friend that had been freaking out about her recent GEPIK renewal standing.
Then today she emailed a bunch of us to let us know that apparently her school had to keep her because they had not told her 2 months in advance that they had changed their mind.
Her principal gave her a copy of a paper from GEPIK that pretty much said that schools had to pay out of their own pocket if they signed a renewal with a teacher after the announcement but before March 1st, 2012.
Is this an official but unknown rule? |

Why prolong the inevitable? Why do you teachers think one school will employ you from cradle to grave? Find another school. |

Kidnap some of the mothers and barricade yourself in the english zone. Only come out when they agree to another year. |

Face saving excuse.
Truth be told:
GEPIK ceased separate funding for the NET program in Public School's within Gyeonggi province (AFTER the province stopped funding for the program in an effort to fix their budget).
However:
Schools have always had the ability to hire a NET (just like an art or music teacher) from their own general budgets.
The parents committee at many of the schools have access to large, discretionary funds as well.
Schools within Gyeonggi have also always had the ability to get funding or a NET from the EPIK (national) program as well.
IF the parents or the administration of the school want a NET or want to keep their NET there are ways and means for them to do so.
Current contracts will be honored. Extensions may or may not occur (depending on the admin or parents at the school).
For those who are really worried, ASK.
You CAN do an extension/renewal at immigration up to 60 days prior to the expiration of your ARC. Once the contract is signed and your ARC extended they are bound (by contract and labor law (civil service act)) to keep you unless they acquire legitimate grounds to terminate your employment.

Who said anything about prolonging the inevitable or being a "lifer"?
If this were the beginning of hiring season, I would agree that people should move on to a new school, but a lot of people (I know of 3) found out that their school cant keep them just this past week, leaving them about 6 weeks to scramble and find a new position.
On top of already being familar with your students and location, signing with the same schools gets you a renewal bonus, possibly a raise, and a paid 2 week trip home...so I can see why some people are annoyed at having to change schools.
Thanks for the insightful advice though. |

She is asking for two monthes. No one ever said one school should employ you cradle to the grave. Two monthes to find a new job and apartment is very very reasonable.
Are you really that cruel? |

There's no such rule.
The paper says that schools have to pay the teacher's salary but doesn't say that the school HAS to keep the teacher if they didn't tell her 2 months in advance. They can end your employment at any time for any of the issues spelled out in the GEPIK contract. |

No, she wants two months notice if she has another year or needs to start looking. |

2 months is in reference for giving notice, not for duration of teaching.
As far as I know, March 1st, 2012 is 7 months (duration) away. Well over 2 months. Nothing said October 2011 which is 2 months (duration) away.
The original poster, if I understand it, wants to catch them on a technicality so they can stay another year (because there was no 2 month notice, 2 months ago, the school has to pay out until March 2012)
If they meant 2 months, then I don't understand why March is mentioned, since any school could easily give 2 months notice and not have to pay out of their pocket after October.
Maybe the original poster can clarify what they meant. |

That may be what she wants but that's not what the OP states:
"Is there some special rule about your school having to give you 2 months notice of their intentions to KEEP you?"
"I have a friend that had been freaking out about her recent GEPIK RENEWAL standing"
"Then today she emailed a bunch of us to let us know that apparently her school had to KEEP her because they had not told her 2 months in advance that they had changed their mind"
(capitals are mine).
Nowhere does it say anything about notice or wanting it. |

Sorry I'll clarify.
I am not trying to catch anyone in anything. I mentioned that my friend was told by her school that they will keep her because she was not told 2 months in advance about being let go.
I was askng if such a rule really existed because:
1) If it did, more people should know about it.
2) If it didnt, I wanted to tell my friend (almost none of my friends use Daves) that she probably should still consider her job as good as gone, despite the promises her school is making to her.
March 2012 was mentioned because that is suppossedly when GEPIK will have money to hire teachers again. So I think the document was saying that schools should foot the bill or wait until the next intake period if they want a shot at GEPIK money. |

No such rule exists.
If you(general you and not specific you) have a signed contract you are pretty much good to go unless you violate some law or policy.
If not then don't assume anything...even if the school makes promises.
Many a "teacher" has been caught short...simply because the school says something without checking with the POE/local office of education first. |
