I had always heard that the Japanese were crazy over "Anne of Green Gables", but I was quite shocked to see it on Korean TV.
Almost as shocking as last year when a couple of Aussies started saying they like "Degrassi". I can't believe that show ever got out of Canada, worst program ever.
Who knew that anyone other than Canadians had to endure our horrible entertainment. |

The Japense are CRAZY over Anne of Green Gables, they come by the busload in the summer time, were like a little Japenese province in the summer. They even took her house and built it in Japan! i kid you not, I hate the damn play (every island child has at least seen it once) and it annoys me cause you see everybody selling all this Anne stuff for way overprice.. but that's the way it goes i guess when you have a good tourist attraction. doesn't surprise me that its in Korea Anne wil take over all of ASIA and PEI will rule! which Degrassi are you talking about the older ones? or the new ones? (both are bad) |

Koreans who grew up with the book know it as "Red Haired Anne". You can still find it in some bookstores.
And let's not diss Degrassi. It's like a fine wine. |

the question i haev been asking myself since i have been old enough to hear myself think in my head is why the hell do so many Asians love her? i seriously don't get it, i mean its just some red haired girl, i can't rem the story now (shows how much i care about Anne lol), but when Japenese go to Cavendish in teh summer to see her house and Lucy Maud Montgomery's house and her gravestone with there cameras it often makes you wonder.. some people i have talked to from Japan actually think she is REAL! we have Anne of Green Gables chocolates, figurines, Cranberry Juice!! and much more.. makes you go insane sometimes, espec hearing the commercial for the drink "I just love the Bright Red Drinks!" (supposed to be Anne saying that).. lol. the Degrassi is alright, i have seen a couple episodes of the new show and i think they are teaching kids who watch it a good message, (if htey pay attention enough to actually watch the tv) the older one's were good, fixture fromy childhood, i guess you consider it bad when you look back at it now that i'm older and you see people from the Old show on the new one... |

I've never heard anyone say anything bad about the show. My friends and I used to sit around and watch reruns during study break sat uni.
Ah well.
(Best program ever...) |

Probably because her behaviour is so spunky and she speaks her mind. It's the opposite of what a "good" asian should do. The books & show while not great are not bad either.
There is probably some weird ass stuff that you do that Koreans or whoever don't understand either. |

| I believe the book is required reading for all school children in Japan, and has been for quite some time. This probably makes it a common denominator for just about everyone in Japan, thus spurring on the popularity. |

That explains why when I tried the title in my adults class I got no response, but I mentioned red hair and everyone clued in at the same time. |
