Hi,

I am wondering what visa to apply for and can i actually work as tefl teacher in korea? I have a degree and 2 masters (both english taught) and I have completed a 120 hour tefl course.

Any advice would be smashing!

Thanks,

J

If you don't hold a passport from: Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, or New Zealand, you can't work as an ESL teacher in Korea.

Sorry mate.

With a Russian passport you cannot get an E2 as an English teacher (see the post above mine). TEFL/TESL is NOT an option for you.

With a Russian passport (and a degree from a Russian university) you CAN get an E2 to teach Russian.

You don't / can't apply for a visa until you have a job.

You find a job and then your employer applies for the visa confirmation number at Korean immigration.

AFTER you receive that number you go to the nearest Korean consulate and apply for the physical visa (the paper thing in your passport).

DEPENDING on what field of expertise your masters degrees are in you may qualify as a visiting professor (E1 visa) but you still need to find the employer first.

Contact a poster called NoHopeSeriously. He was explaining in an earlier thread that Russian is really big in Seoul. Infact I'm pretty sure he expects it to take over English in terms of popularity and demand.
