Grey, white, or black?

---

Has anyone quizzed a Korean about car color choice?

I took several Asian studies classes in university, and about half my acquaintances are Asian or Asian American.

I have often heard Asians and Westerners alike speak of how there's such a significant cultural difference between East Asia and Europe / North America. To me the commonalities are much more essential, and the differences comparatively superficial. The differences are obvious, so that's what people notice and take to represent the whole.

When I came to Korea I had a pretty good idea of what to expect, and practically nothing has surprised me. Until this week. The cars. There are three colors. Or not even colors, if one's definition demands something outside the grey monochrome continuum.

Now I find myself staring into the streets as if they were an abyss filled with robots. Being practically alone at my school for the entire week in the midst of summer vaction hasn't helped. But now I'm paranoid, why are cars here grey, black, or white? Is there something so fundamentally different in the Korean mind that owning a brown or green car is audacious to the point of being taboo?

My car in North America is grey. And I like grey. But my car before that was brown. And I like brown, too. But why in Korea are there no brown cars?

LOL!! My husband has a brown car...well, maybe bronze is closer...and mine is blue!!

But we've noticed the same thing. One day when we were driving on Highway 1 we started calling off the car colors as they went past:

White...white...gray...white...black...black...RED!!! white...white...gray...black...black...BLUE!!!

I once saw a deep purple Matiz. It's my dream car! Very Happy

The hatchbacks seem to have good variety. Lots of goofy colored matizes out there

But most people who drive sedans seem to go for low key colors.

Until recently there weren't many choices when buying a full sized car. Strangely they had many colors on the export models.

2 out of 3 cars I've owned in Korea have been RED. And I like it that way. The next one will be red too if I buy it new.

You all are sissies.

I drive a Suburban with Level IV Armor Protection, and for my paint job I went with "Urban Jungle Camouflage" complete with refractive coating to throw off laser guided ordinance as well as a thermal masking coat around the engine block and exhaust systems.

However I recognize there are different tastes, I myself used to drive a Laforza with the "Woodland Jungle" pattern in my more outdoorsy/guerrilla fighting youth.

But go ahead and drive your yellow or silver or beige target, I mean "vehicle". Don't come whining to me when some LG warhead tracks your non-refractive painted car and blows you all the way to Tora Bora.
