|
|
In my EPIK application, I disclosed that I had Hepatitis A several years ago. I didn't think it'd be any problem, as Hepatitis A is a relatively minor illness that people pick up through contaminated food or water, and it has no long-term effects...when someone recovers from Hepatitis A, that person is immune for life and does not continue to carry the virus.
Last week my recruiter contacted me to check my availability for a potential interview on Wednesday or Thursday. The interview didn't materialise...at the same time the recruiter sent me an email asking me to clarify the Hep A that I disclosed. Now I'm getting paranoid that the Hep A counted against me, causing me to lose out on an interview....why would they ask me about it?
It seems unlikely, but could having Hep A in the past be a black mark on your application? |

Not unlikely at all. You would have been far better not to disclose anything.
I agree that it shouldn't be an issue, but sadly for FT's coming to Korea everything is an issue. |

Oh, that sucks. I feel pretty stupid for disclosing it. I just disclosed it because I thought it might become an issue later with a medical check or vaccination requirements or something. |

Better to tell them now then to have it pop up and they turn around and make you pay for your flight home.
So you are saying it's not in your system now? |

Do not disclose anything that they are not going to find out. Say nothing no matter how minor it may seem. They are not going to be rational about it. These are recruiters.
Hepatitis A is relatively minor and is eliminated completely from your body. |

Yeah I know. Hep B and C are the killers with long term consequences. Hep A is relatively easy to get from unclean hands and food. Really I doubt if they would ever check for it, why would they? It's a waste of money for them. Next application don't mention it or anything else period. I had a bleeding ulcer, completely healed, I was hospitalized for, I mentioned it on the application, complete fool. |

I think Hepatitis A is pretty common in Korea. I recently had the blood test test done for an E-visa and the hospital recommended that I get vaccinated against it because there were no Hep A anti-bodies in my blood. Should I get this vaccination? I really don't like needles and it sounds like there a few injections involved. |

I think it's a good idea to get this vaccination, particularly if you're thinking about travelling in less-developed countries in the future. When I got Hep A it was pretty mild, but some people need to be hospitalised, so even though it's much less serious than other types of Hepatitis, it's still better to avoid it. |
