I'm looking forward to revisiting this thread when I get home. Hope there is some good stuff here. I haven't really enjoyed much Korean music. The only thing I've liked so far is this guy:

Cherry Filter is a pretty good Korean rock group (though I don't really listen to much rock in general to make a comparison). They have a nice mix of tracks, some are more pop rock, others are more punk, others screamo, and then some are 'ballad' rock.

I don't think this band will help improve your Korean, though I found the song Pianissimo is the one song that you can follow along at a decent pace.

Also, even if she's technically a 'k-pop' singer, Younha is also a good singer to listen to. Sings well, plays piano and guitar, and did a surprisingly chill version of the song 'Gee'.

I'm with steelrails on Rollercoaster - they have an excellent sound and fun lyrics. Crying Nut is one of the best poppish-punk bands I've ever heard. I especially liked their album "Circus Magic Yoorungdan." As others have said, you can't go wrong with Joo-Joo club and Jao-rim, and Yoon Doh-hyun band is another good rock group. Some Seo Taiji is good stuff, but the guy's made a bunch of project bands, and some are kind of commersh.

No, but now that you mention it I'll be there. I have only limited exposure- basically Shin Jung Hyun, Add4, He 6, Song Gol Mae, and SangUlLim, but it would be nice to broaden the horizons.

Man that stuff was solid. Shame the tradition didn't live on...

Ideally im looking for some stuff with vocals that I can follow as a way to improve my Korean.

this is a great way to pick up Korean as well as listening to some good music...i've been doing this for years and it really does help to continually listen to a language as well as get it in other forms: direct person to person conversations and even watching Korean Variety Shows w/english subtitles at first and then later on without them as well

i would recommend watching Variety or Comedy programs because the language is more simple than say a news program or a drama

if your serious about Music, there are Sites dedicated to Korean Music that are not considered 100% legal (depending on your views)

other ways of getting music is:
Korean Radio STREAMS 24/7 and don't have to click on links
http://tunein.com/radio/Korean-g152/

only disadvantage here is only a handful have the songs they played in a list form to find them for later listening

Two of the saddest and well known Korean Ballad Songs of all time

Jo Sung Mo -To Heaven
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYSKoLOFGvQ

Kiss - Because I'm a Girl
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0BAssXgeHs

This is a sample of getting your Korean Variety along with Eng Subs

This was a very popular Show a few years back called X-Men

One or if not the most popular segment was something called dang - yun - ha -ji or Of Course basically you have to respond "Of Course" to whatever the person says no matter how ridiculous, untrue, etc. or you lose

Sorry for low quality vids but this was when Internet vids were still under 700 MB
