I'm coming back to Korea in a couple of days, and am stressing about a certain Blu-Ray release..

So, I'm a Star Wars geek and really want to get hold of the 9-disc set as soon after release as is humanly possible. Will anywhere in Korea stock it, or is my best bet to pre-order online and have it delivered?

When I was in Daejeon in '09-'10, it didn't seem that Blu-Ray had caught on too much..

Cheers!

First off, don't bother buying it here. It will be at least 1.5 to 2 times the price you'll pay back home IF/WHEN it ever gets here.

By then everyone will have copied it anyway and have it on the net, so only collectors will buy it in Korea.

Bluray players have come down in price here, and my area E-mart sells them for between 150,000 and 250,000 won. The discs... no, still far too expensive. They don't sell the $10 specials here. It's all around 30,000 won and up for the most part. There are stores, like one in Technomart, where you can catch a deal, but even used they're at least 15,000 last I looked.

I have 100+ blu-rays and consider it a waste.

if you want a blu-ray player, might as well get a PS3 'cuz it does more things as well, like act as a media center. however, I think the OP has a blu-ray player already.

I have owned both a PS3 and an LG Bluray player.

I will say that the PS3 had better sound and was more stable. In fact, the sound coming out of HDMI from the PS3 was far better than CD players costing up to $2000, when the upscaling was properly applied -- assuming you have a higher-end receiver that can handle it -- and it could do it to .mp3s. That actually freaked me out, and I miss my PS3 for that very reason.

It's my opinion that the days of going out to the shops and buying a 12cm disc, of whatever format, and then taking it home and putting it in a dedicated player, are over.......or at least numbered.

I mean, if that's what you like doing. Fine. I'm not criticizing.......it's just that it's so much easier to have a HTPC under your TV and play any HD format you want, including Bluray, from your hard disk.....as well as being able to do all the other things that a PC can do....

Actually, I'm frustrated that the TV manufacturers don't just start rolling out TV's that can play HD streamed from the net.....or do they already? Not sure.

They do in the USA. Samsung included. But licensing keeps it from happening here. You can get TV's like this Samsung with built-in Pandora, Netflix, Skype, Twitter, Facebook etc. And they're a heck of a lot cheaper, too.
