Curious since I've never heard of it, I tried the carnitas torta today. Would've preferred hot meat (and more meat, that's always the case) but it wasn't bad. I never noticed the chef specials, neat to have something a little different from the normal menu. I just wish Tomatillo's wasn't so damned expensive in terms of lunch.
The horchata, something else I've never had before, was definitely nice. |

every san diego taco shop serves that...but of course way tastier. i will admit that tomatillo's version is like methadone for my heroin addiction, though. everyone should try it. |

I tried Taco Man, the place in Hongdae from the link above, and was both surprised and bummed that I didn't know about it before. They serve authentic tacos like you might get at a taco truck or stand, just a corn tortilla, carne asada, onions, cilantro and salsa (very spicy but good). Tables are set up outside. I talked with the owner and he seems like he's trying to do it right, everything is hand-made and grilled fresh, even the corn tortillas, which really surprised me.
Since the blog post they have raised their prices, now 3,000 won for a taco. They've also added burritos and quesadillas to the menu, which I didn't try. Here's a cut and paste with directions from the post, starting from the main gate of Hongdae.

"If you want to check it out, its right behind the Purgio building. When youre at the big intersection facing the campus, take a left at the Hana Bank and the next immediate left between Nescafe and Starbucks. Then walk straight and take a right at the Italian restaurant (forgot the name). Taco Man is right next to a Japanese ramen joint, which is next to a Family Mart." |

I actually skip on the salsa, as I find it's overwhelmingly spicy, but that's just me. |
