My little sister (she is Canadian) is interested in getting a position with SMOE/EPIK-Seoul for February 2012. I'm trying to help her out.

She is having a tough time with getting any interest from hagwons (possibly because she is black). I am of course also black but I've never had any trouble with getting a hagwon job (possibly because I've always been flexible on location). I've tried to convince her of trying other locations but she wants Seoul. SMOE/EPIK-Seoul may be her only hope for being able to live in Seoul.

She has a 100 hour TESOL course and she taught at a hagwon in a small city in Korea for a year from 2006-2007.

I think that she can probably get a job with SMOE/EPIK-Seoul. What her and I are really worried about is getting her documents in on time.

Does anyone know how soon she should have them? She applied for her RCMP check a few days ago but that can take 2-3 months. Supposedly they will accept the first round in October and the cut off for documents is early December.

I can just see her not getting her RCMP check until November and all the positions being filled because of people who already have their documents. That would really suck.

I understand how she feels and why she wants to live in Seoul. She was not treated well (at work and on her own time) when she taught in a small city in Korea before. Not to take a shot at Korea, but she tells me that being a black woman in a small city in Korea is still enjoyable but not easy (I believe her).

She's a really good sister and teacher so any advice is most appreciated, all the best!
