Well, they are not ALL ripped off from Japanese models; there are rip offs of a few other companies' models too...

Hyundai cars are known for having incredible fuel efficiency, but after the first 4 or 5 years the maintenance falls to shit and loses the performance it had just a few years earlier. This unfortunately causes these cars to have poor resale value. Having noticed this, the company started working harder on the cars, which are becoming more and more dependable with a longer life and are starting to maintain their value. (Similar story to Samsung, which is also a Korean company and now one of the largest electronic companies in the world)

So if Apple is suing Samsung, why didn't Honda ever sue Hyundai? Even the logo is almost exactly the same, just slanted a bit.

While the products are getting progressively better, from music to technology to cars, there's definitely a pattern of extremely blatant copying going on. It used to be that the Japanese were accused of copying, but they at least innovated and changed and stylized things quite a bit. Then the Koreans copied the Japanese products to a tee while undercutting on price and sometimes quality. Wasn't there a lot of reverse engineering going on as well?

I don't care if someone copies if it provides cheaper products with decent quality to the masses as long as the innovator also retains profitability.

Without the copier you'd have a monopoly.

So, is your position that Hyundai did NOT copy any Honda models? That seems like a pretty tough case to make, but go ahead and try. An even tougher case to make is that the bulk of Korean companies by and large are not copiers.

Do many Korean companies churn out good stuff nowadays? Generally, yes, and sales are going great. But to deny the pattern of copying over the years with many different products (not just cars) is to put your head in the sand. In fact, in an honest discussion I bet they'd be the first to admit they copied (off the record of course).

As a business model, there's nothing specifically wrong with copying if you can change it enough to avoid lawsuits. And sometimes it's better to not reinvent the wheel and just take the basic designs from others. It's fairly common actually. BUT let's at least be honest and call it what it is: COPYING...and some just do it more blatantly than others.

Ok "genius" (I like how you're making this personal) nobody ever made the claim that competing in similar market segments makes something a ripoff. Making that point doesn't strengthen your argument at all.

Again, are you a Hyundai rep? It's like you are hurt personally or something by a few car comparisons on a website. If you are so offended about it, you may want to take up the comparisons with the guys at Urban Dictionary. Maybe you can round up some angry nationalist netizens for your cause.

Anyway, you can show a few differences in styling in ONE of the car comparisons from the website (the weakest comparison anyway by the way) but so far the MAIN point still stands. Feel free to keep chipping away though...

Hyundai is good in my books. Anyways if you're arguing Hyundai rips off other car manufacturers, then all companies are guilty of that. It's accepted practice to buy their competitors cars and then reverse engineer them.
