OK, apologies in advance if this question duplicates other threads, but I'm a little unclear. I'm in the US right now, and own an iPhone 4. I've been with AT&T for about eight months. Can I change this iPhone over to a Korean cell phone company?

Between paying the severance penalty for AT&T, and the cost of hooking up with a new company in Korea, I'm wondering if it's the same difference if I just sell the iPhone on Craigslist, and get that new Galaxy II everyone's talking about when I get to Seoul.

Relevant information: I'll be on an E2 visa. I'm not sure if the length of stay in Korea complicates things--maybe it's better if I take the hardware with me.

Thanks!

This thread should really be shifted to the Tech forum, but...

One of my buddies has a jail-broken iPhone and he got it switched over to a Korean network. I think you have to sign a two year contract, however.

Unlikely. Contracts are for buying phones on instalment plans or getting special deals.

You'll most likely get put onto a contractless month-to-month smart phone plan. You know those ones with a set number of call hours, sms, 100MB to unlimited data, etc

I very well might be wrong, I just remember something about a two year deal, but that was most likely for getting a new iPhone at 75,000 a month.

How do you jailbreak an American iPhone 4? Can you do it yourself? I was told by people at my company that I'd get charged 400,000 won to have SK or KT do it for me. Also, if I do jailbreak the iPhone 4, will it work smoothly on a South Korean network?
