Simple question. I've been wanting an ottoman (or small table that I can put my legs up on) lately. I'm not opposed to buying an ottoman at all, but I've seen some decent looking items on the street around my neighborhood, and was curious about whether the "fair game" theory is applicable here. I assume it is, or the stuff wouldn't be sitting on the street, but I've seen piles of furniture/appliances next to those blue flatbed trucks and wasn't sure if it would be reasonable to pick something from the lot. NBD, worst case scenario is an ajumma yelling at me, so I'll be giving it a go tomorrow.
Any of you rocking street furnishings?

Anything on the street near or around dumpsters is fair game. No one will bat an eye. If it wasn't being throw out it wouldn't be there. |

Sure, why not? Night is good for that. Sometimes people discard good stuff. |

If they have a big-ass yellow tag on them, you're screwing the previous owners over on it as they paid a fee for disposal. Up to you whether you feel guilty about that or not.
No tag, no worries. |

They couldn't care less. Their furniture disappears from the street. What does it matter for them who took it?
In reverse: I always put out some stuff at first and wait a day or two. If it's still there I buy a sticker. Haven't bought one yet |

Protocol for picking up street furniture.
Bend your knees...lift with your legs...don't lift with your back!
Stop...squat...pick up...walk.
or...(alternative use of phrasal verb)
Introduce yourself...be friendly...but not too friendly.
Invite it back to your place for a coffee. |

I did the latter with the street piece and tried to break it in once we arrived. But all I ended up with was a weak piece of wood so I sent its broken ass back to the street. Paid cab fare, though. |
