In the contacts menu choose "import/export" and then "export to internal memory". It will save a file to your sd card called 000001.vcf. Back up that file to somewhere safe, like your computer. After you reset the phone copy that file back to the phone. Then choose "import/export" again and this time "import from internal memory" |

Thanks!
I have run into that Skype uninstall/reinstall bug that won't allow Skype to be installed again without administrator approval (because it leaves old files around). Ugh.. |

FWIW, I had to do a soft reset a couple of weeks ago. I was able to back up (and subsequently restore) contacts and such with KIES. Prior to the reset, I moved any app that allowed it to the SD card, and then I used this app:
https://market.android.com/details?id=tw.nicky.AppBackupReinstall&feature=search_result
It did a pretty good job of reinstalling all my apps (except for Tstore ones). I had to enter log in info for them again, but it saved me the hassle of re-downloading them.
If you use Launcher Pro, there's an option to save current homescreens (which I didn't notice until after my reset, which would've saved even more time and effort).
I kept putting off my reset cause I thought it'd be a HUGE task to get my phone back to the way it was, but in the end, it didn't take nearly as long as I'd expected.
Good luck! |

Another hour wasted on this POS Samsung Galaxy S.
Even after a wipe/reset of the phone, I cannot get any computer with any operating system to recognize CDC serial. I've installed drivers over and over again, etc.
Oh, how I wish I would have gotten an I-phone. |

Am at the service center now, and as I expected, they didn't really want to upgrade my phone here, and tried to explain away everything as my error. I had to beg, and tell them the truth that every computer I've tried won't make it work. His service computer will connect with Kies, but he was reluctant to upgrade it.
He then told me there is a checkbox for USB Debugging that must be checked, apparently? I had never seen this on the internet -- totally a new one to me, so if anyone else has a problem in the future, give that a try.
I didn't have any faith that this "simple fix" would do it, so I begged him to upgrade it and it should be done in about 20 minutes.
I am not about to go home after all of the hell I've been through trying to upgrade this phone, and all of the hours I've spent simply trying to get it to connect to ANY computer. |
