I know that the mods are angry over the topic and believe that it's a dead issue.
However, SBS conducted an in-depth interview this morning with several people who happened to be on the bus. What they found is that:
1. The black man who had beat up the older man was 100% provoked.
2. Prior to the fight, the black man was on the bus speaking (not on the phone), but to his Korean girlfriend. Apparently, the woman who was attempting to stop the fight.
3. The older man, seeing that the black man could speak in Korean, told said black man to shut up repeatedly. However, the black man simply ignored him and continued to talk to his girlfriend.
4. The older man then engaged in throwing pejoratives and other derogatory aspersions at the black man until the fight broke out.
Mods, forgive me, but if SBS didn't think it was a done deal, then neither do we (their viewers). I promise not to overstep you guys again, but this issue is an important matter especially since it affects many people of color living in Korea.
Little do I need to mention that for the last two days, I have heard the story being told over and over on buses explaining the entire issue as a "black people can't speak Korean" problem. And, I kid you not when I say that I've even encountered it on a bus that transports the supposedly smartest kids in the country to school. I sit patiently, though I often just want to turn around and tell these people, who have no respect or knowledge that some black people have no problem with speaking korean, to SHUT UP. But I refuse to stoop to their level. |

Perhaps...because he's angry. The black man throws his curse words in Korean quite well though. If you've ever heard a valley girl trying to cuss like a black girl from Detroit, then you'd know how difficult cussin' can really be...
NOTE: please find the episode that aired today before engaging in meaningless rebuttal; this comment was 100% uh...ignorant.
Mods you can lock the thread now. I just wanted to give the last of the info.... not incite more stupidity. |

I've not even watched the video - But violence never solves any issues.
He should have just mocked the K guy's 'possible' little man hood and left it at that! |

What are these retarded comments for!?
Hello, let me make it clear: I'm just saying that it's not a racial issue, nor a foreigner versus non-foreigner one.
It was simply two stupid guys reacting in stupid ways.~ Neither have any excuses...
Good lawd...did I write in such a way that my point exceeds the third grade mentality or something? |

If that guy does end up in prison, I bet he'll be showering alone!
and even if he does have to share he wont have to worry about dropping the soap - because homosexuality dosen't exits in korea! |

Why would he tell the guy to shut up?
Did the old guy think he was talking too loudly? |

Was he set free with no punishment? That's what some posts seemed to imply. |

the face of the matter is that rather than ignore the old man, u chose to resort lowly to violence and strike the old man. That is both the actions of a stupid man (especially in a foreign country!) and a coward. It doesnt matter what happened because he hit him, that alone trumps everything that happened, and if you know anything about korean law, he is gonna get in trouble for it. (they make a case of it especially for foreigners in korea!) |

"Ignore the old man"--if only it were so easy. It's the old man who was being the coward because, like you, he thinks he can hide behind his age to insult another human being. Joseon bull that too many on this board seem to have bought into. |

Like me? ok internet warrior. Words are JUST that, words. If you are that bothered or irritated because someone says something, that i feel pity for you. Regardless if the old man snickered or said anything, it gives a person the right to strike them? Didnt think so. |

I heard the black guy was in Korea for only 6 months, unless he started day and night hours a day I doubt he is at conversation level. knowing a few swear words is one thing.
right or wrong, the black man throw the punch so in Korea that is a guilty charge, who ever hits first is automatically guilty! even in a case of self defence at times.
the black man flipped his lid, he had a choice to get off the bus, walk to the end of the bus, ignore the old guy, instead he chose to beat him up.
I am not saying what he is did was wrong, or what he did was right.
but in the eyes of the prosecutor, he is guilty. |

Same reason an old man yelled at some friends and I on the subway in Daegu. Who knows?
We hadn't been on the subway for 30 seconds and weren't speaking loudly. Some of the old people here might have a grudge. But I have had some old guys tell me "Thanks" you for just being American. |
