Bicyclists should stay off the sidewalks, period. The sidewalks should be for walking only. |

Completely disagree. Bicyclists are infinitely more dangerous and disruptive on the road than on the sidewalk.
First you have the cyclist entitlement mindset, which is not constructive to the situation.
Then you have the fact that cars are going 45 mph and you have some guy on a bike going 15-20 and causing traffic jams and people to slam on their brakes.
Add to that that if a car or especially a heavy truck hits a bicyclist the bicyclist is probably being picked up with a mop.
The road is for cars. The sidewalk is for slower stuff like rascals, bikes, and pedestrians.
Because one elderly guy dies from a bike injury doesn't mean that it's dangerous. Stuff happens.
Ideally all roads should have bike lanes, but in situations where there aren't any, get those cyclists off the road. Commerce needs to flow. |

1. putting them on a sidewalk is probably even worse if they have such a "mentality".
2. i really don't see that happening too often.
3. no one's forcing them to ride a bike. there are inherent risks with EVERYTHING.
4. a bicycle is closer in speed to a car than a person walking. the sideWALK is for just that - walking.
5. i completely agree with you.
the scooters on the sidewalk thing here drives me crazy, but hey - as i mentioned in another thread, this isn't my country, and one white dude isn't going to change the mindset of an entire asian nation. i'm simply not used to it, as it's technically illegal to ride a bicycle on the sidewalk in my country. don't even think about a scooter or motorbike.
so i guess my above opinion stems from that. |

I would never ride my bike on the road. That's just playing with fire.. Having said that, a person was killed and there should be consequences. |

How many more people would be killed if the cyclists rode in the street. That is how many cyclists? I rode on the sidewalks always if I could. I'm not riding a bike in the street, no way. In the city where I was from it was completely legal. |

So don't ride a bike, drive a car instead? More traffic congestion, more pollution and green house gases and more precious oil going up in smoke? |

Because the internet was built on false dilemmas. |
