Hi guys.

I am pretty sure that I would be described as having an inattentive flavour of ADHD. I've been thinking about this for a long time and researching, it's not just a whimsical net diagnosis, and I need to know if meds can help.

I didn't start the process of getting diagnosed in the UK. It can be difficult and lengthy to get seen there.

I've seen several posts about doctors, and would like to find out if it would be possible and straightforward to get prescribed meds here. Would there be some doctors that are more likely than others to give me a 'scrip?

Also it presumably goes on my record here, do you think it will be an issue with finding work in future?

Considering you posted this thread no less than 7 times in the same forum...few would disagree.

There are several posters on this site who have contacts with counselors...perhaps they might be able to guide you in the right direction.
Best of luck getting the help you need.

I believe that most of the standard ADHD medicines (Adderall, Ritalin, etc) are illegal in Korea, just FYI.

Damn. Looks like you're right from searching google. That's a bit faffed up.

edit: although it looks like people are getting meds

Yeah I could have searched the forum before posting.

I'd still appreciate if anyone can clear the availability issue up, and give info about getting diagnosed here while I'm forum digging.

I can't imagine you getting an E-2 visa with your problems. And then saying you need illegal drugs.

I dunno. Even if you got diagnosed, you couldn't have the drugs flown to you either. Sounds just like a big problem.

I don't know if it would go on your record. I doubt it. I knew someone who went to the doctor for ADHD medication. The person was not a teacher, but, rather, an engineer and received medication.

He said he wanted prescribed medication. You can get prescription medication for concentration problems in Korea. Someone I knew did just that. He can go to a doctor for that. Or, he could go to the alternative medicine practitioner in Seoul if he wants alternative medicine. It is pricey.

Thanks for the answers. Kennyftw, give it a rest ffs.

The thread I linked to suggests it would be possible to do it legally, which is what I want.

I'd rather not talk about pros and cons of medication. If you actually want to help don't derail it. If you must know I've been doing personal development stuff for at least 10 years, eat a good low carb diet and am very open to drug free approaches and not being on it forever...but you know what it's my life not a dress rehearsal and I can't just chase a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow that may not materialise with alternative medicine so no patronising replies if you don't mind.

I asked the doctor at the Int'l Clinic in Itaewon, and he said Ritalin isn't easy to get here in Korea. He said you have to take a computer test that measures your concentration to see if you have ADD or ADHD, and that the test is 150,000 won. Korean law being what it is though (ignored most of the time), you might be able to get it from someone else.

Ritalin IS NOT illegal here. I personally know two people who get it on prescription from the doctor.

Why ask here anyway. If you think you need it go to the doctor and get the real answer.

I'm just off the boat. Which doctor is best to go to? 'international clinic'...a 'wellbeing clinic'...a regular gp whatever that is.

Seems pretty obvious from having a look round the forum that different approaches can get you different answers in Korea.
