Yes. I did piss all over it. Maybe over the top.
I just think that people are looking for easy ways
get around sensibility. Just because you're losing
weight doesn't mean you're healthy.
But, people should do what they want to do.
So, go for it.
If you're healthy and fit, you don't need to torture
yourself with cold showers, was my point. |

Then your point has no business on a thread about a particular way to LOSE WEIGHT. |

While this makes me question to what ends some people will lose weight, i dont really want to try this lol
On what someone said about drinking ice water and using lemons as well, those are actually 2 suggested ways of losing weight. lemons are considered a way of helping fat burners start up, and ice cubes are said to help the body start to burn fat because it has to keep the body at a constant level. now if these are true, awesome im doing well! lol |

In theory...it may work...it may not.
In reality, however, if you have any kind of arthritis, tendinitis, joint pain, carpal tunnel, etc...you may find this therapy to have disastrous consequences.
If you don't have extremely good circulation...all I can say is...be very, very careful with this one.
When the body is exposed to cold, it tries to protect itself in two basic way...one is shivering...and this could be good for weight loss.
The second is blood shunting... reducing heat loss by diverting blood flow away from the body extremities to the body core.
The lack of blood circulation to the extremities...especially if your circulation is not that great...combined with any of the above mentioned afflictions...is a recipe for chronic pain.
But hey...no pain no gain right?
I have experimented with this therapy over the years and always end up with sore wrists and ankles...already sore from years of competitive sports.
Anyway...give it a try but with some caution...just thought I would throw this out there. |

Don't they or at least most of them alternate between ice baths and hot baths for optimum recovery? |

i've never heard of taking a hot bath....
one article....
Cryotherapy ("cold therapy") constricts blood vessels and decreases metabolic activity, which reduces swelling and tissue breakdown. Once the skin is no longer in contact with the cold source, the underlying tissues warm up, causing a return of faster blood flow, which helps return the byproducts of cellular breakdown to the lymph system for efficient recycling by the body. "Ice baths don't only suppress inflammation, but help to flush harmful metabolic debris out of your muscles," says David Terry, M.D., an ultrarunner who has finished both the Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run and the Wasatch Front 100-Mile Endurance Run 10 consecutive times.
another article....
When you get into an ice bath for five to 10 minutes, the icy cold water causes your blood vessels to tighten and drains the blood out of your legs. After 10 minutes your legs feel cold and numb.
So when Wilko gets out of the bath, his legs fill up with 'new' blood that invigorates his muscles with oxygen to help the cells function better.
At the same time, the more blood coming into Jonny's legs will have to leave as well, draining away and at the same time taking with it the lactic acid that has built up from his match. |

...reducing swelling...being the key there.
This is the proverbial...a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
Sure... a specific and scientifically proven therapy for reducing swelling...hot and cold therapy is relatively common.
For reducing fat...well...time will tell.
As for the never hearing about anyone never taking a hot bath...really?
The world over has hot baths, jacuzzis, saunas..etc...for therapy...relatively common therapy for aliments to numerous to list.
I am not trying to dissuade anyone from attempting this therapy...quite the opposite...go ahead and give it a try...it may very well work wonders for you.
Just be carefull that there may also be some collateral damage.
Best of luck with your adventure. |

I really don't think showering with cold water will make you lose fat. Exercise instead and eat less carbohydrates. It isn't hard to lose weight if you know what you are doing. |

The real question is How many calories???
It might be a mere 100-200 calories if not less.
There are plenty of weightloss tips(like eating peppers) or eating foods that speed up the metabolism. The problem is the loss is so small. |

“‘My first exposure to thermogenics was from a French physician who wrote a book in the early 80’s about his pioneering work using cool temperatures to lose weight. He advocated cool 25 degree C showers once or twice a day and also living 2-3 degrees below your thermal neutrality point. His methods were very successful with his patients. He discovered that once the excess fat was lost, the body would be balanced and no more fat would be lost.’....
“In the comment above he cites 25° C as the shower temperature, which is 77° F. For me that wouldn’t be too cool, so I would instead personalize this recommendation a little lower. My take away is you should drop the temperature from warm to cool, but nothing cold enough to elicit a stress response. If you find yourself speeding through the shower based on discomfort, the temperature is probably too low.”

Could cool showers be better than cold showers for weight loss? I can see how cold showers could be counterproductive. They could elicit a stress response. More stress hormones in the blood can lead to muscle breakdown, fat storage in the belly area, and a lower metabolism. I tried taking cold showers for three months and noticed little benefit. Winter is coming. Maybe if you are trying to lose weight you could experiment with wearing a little bit less, turning down the floor heating a bit, and taking cool showers. Your body will have to burn more calories to keep warm. |

I also would have thought that cold temperature waters would lead people to metabolise slower - hence the fact that swimmers are quite big considering the time they exercise.
I tried this thing a while back to help me lose weight. I stopped eating crap and exercised once or twice a day. My body developed form and I also lost a lot of fat. I think it was called the 'exercise diet'.
Anyway, what ever you do, your body will learn quickly and adjust to it, so its best to change up now and again if youre a 'fad/pseudo bollocks' person. |

For those of you complaining about itchy skin, something I learned to make a habit of, while living in the desert, where skin literally gets destroyed by the sun and water, is to use baby oil. Right when you get out of the shower (before you reach for that towel...), hot or cold, apply baby oil to your wet skin. Let it soak in a bit then dry off. Problem solved, and your skin will look healthy. Mix in some tea tree or eucalyptus oil if you wish.
Also, if you want to change your form, two exercises which will have people telling you "wow, you lost weight! You look good!" Give the jump/skip rope a go, as well as swimming. Make these two exercises a regular habit on top of a balanced diet, you'll be fine. |
