My post is two part:
I feel like I may be up a creek without a paddle.
I had a job offer (or so I supposed). I was able to ask a current teacher about their experience via email. Everything was good and appeared to be wonderful.
I sent out my documents as soon as I was able. They arrived in Korea...and...the job has disappeared. Fantastic.
Now my documents are who knows where and I have no job.
Now of course the recruiter believes they have a position at another school, in Ulsan, with LCI Kids Club (which turns up some negative feedback as of a year ago here via Dave's).
I am now forced to work with this recruiter who can hopefully produce a worthwhile job.
And I have an interview with a school of dubious reputation, but an asap start date (which is what I need).
Advice? Comfort? Help? |

youre screwed.
you either got bait and switched or the job lied and strung you along as a backup plan and hired a teacher within the country.
your best bet is to have the recuiter forward your docs to a friend in korea. if not, id ask for them back to work with multiple recruiters.
you dont need a job asap. i guarantee when you take a job without taking yoyr time it will suck. good luck |

This most likely.
The start date was the end of October. There was nothing else to tip me off about it. As I mentioned I had received a good response from a current teacher.
How likely do you really think it is that the recruiter is be willing to forward my documents to someone else in country?
Right now I'm feeling pretty down about the whole thing. |

The same thing happened to my friend. Thankfully the recruiter was professional about it and gave him a choice:
1. return the docs to his home country
2. keep the docs in her office, and promise to forward them to another school or recruiter if necessary.
He chose option 2, knowing that to send the docs back home, and then back to korea again would be time consuming and expensive.
So the recruiter kept to her word (the recruiter company rhymes with "Pims Porea"). He used other recruiters, telling them his documents were being held in korea and gave them the original recruiters phone number if an explanation was necessary.
Another recruiter got him a job, so his docs were posted accross Seoul and bob's your uncle, things ended up fine in the end. |

Very likely. They're not going to tell you no to sending it within the country. The recruiter will ask why and try to get you to let them keep it (making you at their mercy) but don't fall for it. The same thing happened to me and they forwarded my docs to my girlfriend in Korea, worked with multiple recruiters again, and secured a good job. |

Some years ago same happened to me. I was really in the soup b/c my varsity had decided not to issue replacement diplomas, only a tatty letter.
However, the recruiter not only forwarded my degree to another recruiter, he sent it registered mail.
This after incurring the accent check telephone call cost and wasted time in lengthy mails. The latter mails I was really rude to him as well, saying that I had heard him associated with horror stories.
On top of that he said the other recruiter was really abrupt with him for no reason. I told him I was forever in his debt and would try to support him at a later date.
So yes, I agree with above posters, your stuff will be passed on, don't worry unduly. |

Hey OP same thing happened to me last week! I woke up to an email saying that the recruiter had received my docs but that the job had been filled. This being 6am and quite a shock I emailed back in a bit of a rage. Anyway, the recruiter apologised but happened to have another job. Mmmmm suspicious...
Anyway. I found another job later that day with a different recruiter and got the old one to send my docs on and she did so all is not lost. What recruitment agency did you use?
And when I told the new job that my docs were in Korea they were very pleased as they got them quite soon. |

That sucks but just start over. It doesn't matter if the recruiter has your documents as they belong to you. Don't feel pressured to take another job unless it is to your liking.
Find another job and have your recruiter send your documents to the new school or recruiter. |

Just enforcing what others said. Don't worry too much about this.
Something similar happened to me though I knew there was a tight deadline for my documents going over. They needed it by Friday, it arrived on Tuesday, they gave the job to someone else.
However my recruiter lined up another job, within 48 hours and the first hagwan was happy to mail my documents to the other school.
Most recruiters appear to have the same jobs, so ask the recruiter to retain the documents from the school and keep them till they find you a job that you are happy with. You don't have to go with the next one they offer.
Good luck! |
