				Hi all,

I'm preparing to apply for EPIK Spring 2012, I have a quick question regarding the medical check once in Korea. Is there a chest X-Ray for the check? I thought the point of it was to determine if you had anything dangerous/contagious like HIV etc?

I don't have anything in that category, but I do have a mild genetic lung condition. I work full-time in the UK and I'm definitely well enough to be teaching, in fact I have a better work ethic than many of my peers who are in perfect health...I'm just a little worried about this X-Ray. My lung function is in the normal range and I'm sure my lungs are in better nick than most smokers, but do you think I will have a problem passing the medical?

Thanks |

The x-ray is looking for things like TB. If your x-ray is not foggy then you will be fine.

I have chronic asthma and it was a non-issue.

				Thanks Ttompatz

Btw, how do you cope with the pollution side of things with your asthma? I'm guessing it's not too much of an issue if you're in Gwangju? |

Stay out of Seoul. There are lots of other nice places in Korea.

I was teaching in Gwangju (Gyeonggi) and commuting from Bundang (Seohyun).

Seoul was convenient when I needed it. The air was better and my asthma wasn't bothered too much except for the weekends I went to the bright lights.

Asthma meds are readily available (but you need a script for most of them).

Dr. visits were cheap 3-5k won and get a script for 3-6 months. Don't even need an English speaking Dr. The local office was always good enough and it doesn't take much to indicate what you need.

Bring a 3-month supply with you and life is easy.

				Thanks again T

Sounds like a good plan, definitely not living in Seoul, I'm thinking either Busan or Daejeon.

Or possibly one of the smaller cities near Seoul, such as Seongnam/Suwon, so like you I'd be close to Seoul but far enough away from the big lights and stink! Have you been to either of those? |
