Looking to head to Thailand at the start of December and have around 10 days to spend there. Going to do the whole Bangkok scene for 2 or 3 days (including a trip to the River Kwai, of course) and then head to a beach for a week!
Pranburi seems a great place to chill and do very little but I'm wondering if anyone has any first hand advice? We'd be staying at the Blue Beach Resort.
Is a week too long in such seclusion? |

If you are going to go to Kanchanaburi (bridge on the river Kwai) anyway, just keep going south till you hit either Krabi or Phuket. Enjoy a few days at the beach then head back for the big mango to catch your flight home.
Buses are frequent and cheap (it is about 8 hours).
The evenings may be cool (22-26) so bring a shirt with sleeves.
Depending on your dates we may be able to hook up for a coffee.

Many thanks for your reply, much appreciated!
We aren't really looking for the whole beach resort type vacation which is, going by what we've read, essentially what Krabi and Phuket are.
We've got our hearts set on Pranburi and the Blue Beach Resort in particular as it seems secluded and away from the tourist hoardes.
Thanks for the offer of coffee though... if you are still in Gwangju we could maybe meet up for one here  |

Actually, I was thinking of Kanchanaburi/Suphanburi for coffee  .
and I, when I am in Korea, am in the Gyeonggi Gwangju and not the one down south.

There's a lot to do in Kanchanaburi,

Never been to Pranburi myself but sure looks nice.
Seems like a week there might be kind of long.
Maybe try to get out of Bangkok fast and plan a couple of nights in Kanchanaburi (don't do a day trip from Bangkok). Then save Bangkok for the end and head back if you get bored at the beach. |

Hi and thanks for the link!
Why do say don't do a day trip? We only have two days in Bangkok (sat and sun) and are planning the Saturday for Bangkok and Sunday for a day trip to Kanchanaburi which will include floating market, bridge over the river kwai, war cemetery, tiger temple and elephant riding and bathing.
I understand that's a lot for one day but surely it's better than nothing at all and if that's all we have to spare why should we not do it? I also understand it's not very "backpackerish" but we aren't backpackers who just want to move around wherever the mood takes us. |

I say it for two reasons. There's a lot more there to do than in one day, (though it sounds like you can fit it in).
Also, the middle of the day in Thailand, like from 11 to 5 is hot, and from 12 to 4 is way incredibly hot. If you do a day tour, you are out there in the worst part of the day. The best time for anything in Thailand (apart from the beach) is morning and late afternoons. That's why I think it is better to stay there (anywhere) and enjoy it in a late afternoon and morning, rather than the heat of the day.
Still, up to you, day trip could work for your schedule. |
