He was still just a ruthless capitalist at the end of the day. Do you think I should be sad? Sorry to say, but I just don't feel anything. I feel for his family and the way he went out wasn't pleasant. RIP.
It's touching that you shed tears for the man who you helped to make rich. I'm simply too barbaric and unfeeling for that. |

He stole a liver from another waiting on the transplant list and murdered them because he had money. In the end, his ill-gotten goods didn't save him.
One only hopes the unethical doctors who support these kinds of activities won't be around much longer either. |

100%. Why people feel he was such a great guy is beyond me. I'm not so callous that I would mock his death, but this outpouring of grief is baffling. Apple are just a brand. They're not a humanitarian aid organization FFS. The fanboys need to get a grip. |

Seriously, you need to calm down cause you're arguing with a strawman. Would it make you feel better if I said I wasn't moved by Jobs' death? |

Let's not forget that he did create more wealth for more people than any CEO in history. He single handedly took the company's stock from $10 a share to $400 a share. Many people profited from Apple stock over the years.
I understand that some of you didn't like the guy, but I think it's a bit unfair to paint him as nothing more than a greedy businessman who overcharged people for the products they bought. He had a $1 annual salary. His money, like the investors he served, came from Apple's stock, so he had a vested interest in seeing the company's bottom line and stock price rise.
Call me crazy, but maybe more CEOs should get $1 salaries. If more CEOs only got their money in the form of company stock, perhaps companies would be run a bit better. |

What makes you think I was talking about you in particular? Check out what Gatsby wrote in this thread. If you don't like what I've said, you will probably fly into a fit of rage at this:

He had a vested interest in having a 15% capital gains tax rate, which would be lower than that of his programmers and designers (aka the ones who actually innovated... a little). Jobs was a very talented marketer, though. |

Sure, he benefitted from a low capital gains tax. But, if he didn't increase the company's stock price, that low capital gains tax would have been meaningless. What's 15% of 0? Sorry, but I think basing a CEOs salary on company performance is a good idea. More companies should do it, and it would make investors happy.
I'm not going to get in an argument about all of this because no one is going to change his/her mind on the issue. Each person has his/her opinion and that's great. We should.
But, how many CEOs can you name that increased the stock price of their company 40x? I would be willing to bet you could not use all the fingers on one hand.
Sorry, but credit where credit is due. The guy knew how to run a business. |

You're reading an awful lot out of this thread. I didn't even particularly like the guy. But I respect his accomplishments. Maybe because I grew up with computers and work in IT, I feel his influence more than the average person. I don't expect you to understand. You obviously like to see things in black and white and cubbyholed me as a "fanboy". Whatever. Considering the spirit of this thread, I find the venom and negativity here a lot more revealing. |
